We got two early runs in the 1st without a hit as the starter for Cincy walked four batters and hit another and was pulled after getting just one out and the bases loaded. The Cincy reliever Beau Keathley is a righty with an ERA of 8.38 in 9.2 IP. The Cincy reliever walked the first two batters he faced to make it 4-0 with the bases still loaded and one out. IU made it 5-0 on a fielder's choice and Cincy went to their bullpen again bring in Max Bergman, a righty with an ERA of 6.75, and IU with runners on the corners and two outs. A ground out ended the inning with IU scoring 5 runs on no hits, 6 walks, and a hit batter. IU's freshman Luke Hayden put them down in order with one K in the 1st. It's 39 degrees with little wind at The Bart.

Hayden is looking really sharp early on and had another good inning in the 2nd, striking out the first two batters before giving up a 2-out single. A passed ball sent the runner to 2nd, but Hayden got another K to end the inning. Hayden got all three outs on Ks and has four Ks in two innings pitched.

IU got their first hit of the game in the 2nd on a 2-out single to center by Ellis, but Colopy struck out to end the inning. Cincy's batting order of 2 thru 8 have batting averages as follows: .314, .400, .390, .375, .300, .325, and .438. Cincy is hitting .301 as a team with 20 homers so far on the season.

Hayden got them down in order in the 3rd with a pop up, foul out, and a K to end the half of the 3rd for Cincy. Hayden continues to look really good and now has 5 Ks on the game.

IU went down in order to end the 3rd. IU pulled Hayden in the 4th after a really good start today, and brought in Modugno who is normally the Friday starter. Have they sent Modugno to the bullpen? I don't know. Hayden's pitch count was at 48 when they pulled him.

Good inning for Modugno who put them down in order in the 4th on a ground out, 2 Ks. IU batting in the 4th still up 5-0 on just one hit.

In the 4th, Jessee fouled out, Doanes reached on a single. A throwing error by the pitcher moved Doanes to 2nd with one out. Glasser flied out to LF in what was described as a great play by the left fielder that probably saved Cincy a run. An error by the 2nd baseman moved Doanes to 3rd with Whalen reaching 1st with men on the corners with two outs. Whalen stole 2nd, but Ellis struck out to end the inning. Cincy committed two errors, but managed to get out of the inning with no damage done. IU replaced Modugno with Nathan Stahl in the 5th. Stahl has been a little shaky coming out of the bullpen so far on the season and has an ERA of 13.50 in 5.1 IP, but he had a pretty good season last year.

Stahl got a ground out, gave up a single to center, a fielder's choice out at 2nd with a DP just missed, and a K to end the inning. IU up in the B5th.

Modugno was in for just the one inning and got them down in order, so maybe they wanted to give him an inning of work before his start on Friday, or maybe they are changing the weekend order and he will be starting in one of the later games. I just don't know and am guessing.

In IU's 5th, freshman Brock Tibbetts clubbed a one-out line drive homer and freshman Josh Pyne followed with another homer to make it 7-0, IU. Bergman was pitching well for Cincy until this inning when IU finally got to him. It's clear this IU team has more power than last year's version. IU left a man on in the inning.

Stahl has had back-to-back good innings, getting them down in order in the T6th on a K, ground out, and a fly out. IU up in the B6th. Cincy came into the game as a power hitting team that hits with a good average, but IU pitching has kept them in check so far. Cincy's Bergman was replaced with a lefty who has an ERA of 6.00 in 3 IP.

IU left a man on in the 6th on a walk. Cincy up in the T7th. Stahl is still on the mound for IU.

In the T7th, Stahl got them out in order with a ground out and two Ks, and it's time for the 7th inning stretch with IU coming up. Stahl has cut into that high ERA by quite a bit, and after three innings, I don't know if he will be out there again in the 8th.

IU left a man on in the 7th on a walk. Cincy up in the 8th and IU is six outs away from getting the win and dare I say, shutout. The freshman Holderfield has replaced Stahl in the 8th and I hope I don't jinx him by saying he has the best numbers coming out of the bullpen up to this point in the season.

I didn't jinx him as he got a fly out, and two Ks to take them down in order. IU now has 13 Ks on the game. IU up in their half of the 8th. IU just has four hits so far including the two homers, so it's a change from the games at Missouri St.

Cincy is on their sixth pitcher going into the B8th so they are giving their bullpen some work which is something you usually see in these midweek games. IU has used four and I don't know if they will let Holderfield close it out. He's a freshman and I would give him another inning.

Reese Sharp replaced Holderfield in the 9th to try and close it out. Sharp has been ineffective coming out of the bullpen so far this season, so hopefully he shows good stuff in closing it out.

Good inning for Sharp as he closes it out with a K, and two fly outs to end it, as IU gets the shutout. IU pitching gave up just two hits and 14 Ks against a hot hitting Cincy team. This is Cincy's first shutout of the season and they have scored at least five runs in each of their games up until today.

No HBP? 😂
Yeah. You know, I did think about that late in the game. Maybe, my memory is somewhat faulty, but I don't remember us going through a game until today without plunking at least one batter, and on a cold day, it might have hurt worse.
