Chris Johnson Kansas

Woody reached out to Chris Johnson from Montverde. He just asked to be released from Kansas. 2023 guard. Wow is recruiting heating up. Mustaf, Fland, Betsey, Johnson.
This will be interesting to watch play out.

Woody is killing it.

Kansas was the place Hunter Dickinson went to and I believe he said it was more money from Kansas.
So did Chris leave KU because of money. We all know Self’s honesty threshold so that seems unlikely.
My guess would be leaving due to an up coming off court issue or playing time.

His expected minutes decreased significantly when Kansas added Timberlake and Morris from the portal along with McCullar opting out of the draft and returning.

Yeahbutt....averaging 6.0 ppg and shooting 25% from beyond the arc?

Four star? Really? Seems like we've had kids on campus recently with a lot better stats than that (see above). And Gallo shoots better than that!

Hey, our entire roster can't come from Montverde, or can it?

I was going to comment with some skepticism but I think it's because I haven't yet appreciated what landing Mac means to next year's season. With him, Superman (Kal El), the big Ball State kid (who I think may surprise some people) plus the incoming HS kids, we do have one helluva strong class of new faces coming in.

I read that CMW reached out to this kid (Johnson- KU decommit) but haven't heard if he picked up the call, sounded interested...booked a flight to Indy.....

I will admit, we seem to be back in the game with the big boys again on the recruiting trail. But we really need it to translate to a 25+ win season, B1G championship, S16 and beyond run....something tangible....soon. Program momentum can be fickle. We need to win more battles in Feb and March, not just during the summer.

How's that for glass half empty? Been a long week at work.

We will have top 5 talent annually. Or, let me paraphrase, we will pay top 5 dollar for the talent that we have.

In all reasonableness, we should beat a program like PU 9 times out of every 10 that we face them. I’m guessing that we will have at least one player each year making more individually than the entire roster on almost any other conference team.

However: paying top 5 money for players doesn’t necessarily translate to being a top 5 program. You still have to do it in the court.

It isn't just who has landed so far but the serious looks he is getting. It has been awhile.

I agree wholeheartedly...in spirit. It's great to see IU in the mix for top talent again.

Guess this is what 25 yrs in sales does to a person. My boss once said, " pipelines don't pay salaries....contracts and invoices do". (I'm fighting my urge to post my Alec Baldwin ABC always be closing meme again).

We need a big season soon. A late 1980s-early 1990s-esque type of season.

Reading about him (haven't seen any film), it sounds like his skills are similar to Newton's...defensive intensity, ability to score inside the arc. Sounds like his ball-handling might be somewhat superior to Newton, making him more of a combo guard than Newton. He doesn't look like the 'answer' when it comes to volume 3 point shooting.

This is a good sign. Kansas is an embarrassment of riches.

People gave them guff over losing Mgbako and Udeh. Hunter Dickinson is a good consolation prize in my view. They’re set up
with another title contender next year.

They adjust to the reality of the rules of today. You’ll lose talent because they feel they’re being squeezed out, you’ll bring in talent that just might make the difference. Without Remy Martin KU doesn’t win that 2022 title.

Always build from within, but don’t fret when talent walks out the door for more opportunity if it’s because you’re bringing in superior talent.

Johnson is a good piece, let’s add him.
