BMW is now selling a monthly subscription service for heated seats in your car.

• Monthly fee: $18
• Annual fee: $180

The car will come with all the necessary components, but payment is needed to remove a software block.

Welcome to microtransaction hell.

I just heat the seats up with my farts. I really show em.

The comment on the extension of subscriptions to ADAS features piqued my interest… If you don’t opt-in and pay you car won’t be as safe as it might be. If you don’t continue to pay, your vehicle becomes less safe.

I think NHTSA would take a dim view of such a development, as highway safety proponents don’t think NHTHA pushes the introduction of technology fast enough, despite the cost benefit hurdle for new regulation.
