can it be said?

Overrated? how could the UKers be ranked 4th and beaten by an unranked team? After a week of hype on ESPN we see them lose. After one starter fouls out, they become a different team.
The better question is why wasn’t MSU ranked to begin with? Izzo is the best in the conference at preparing a team. Hands down.

UK always starts the season ranked high based on potential. They then have an awful pre-conference record. Then they walk through an easy SEC and get a top 2 seed. It's the same story with the same ending every year.

They have good young talent but they're always the most overrated team....

I do not think the SEC is easy.

The Natty team from 2012 couldn’t win without Davis. We can’t win this year without TJD. In bball one player absolutely makes the difference. Still fun to watch UK lose

Well, you have UK as a legitimate title contender each year and then you have who?
Auburn, UT, A&M, Arkansas, and LSU, UF and now UGA with White there will jump up. Maybe not quite the depth of the B10, but it's not a cakewalk conference. Maybe 4th or 5th? ACC, B10, B12, then SEC?

Your logic is that if a conference does not have a legitimate title contender than the conference is easy? The B1G has not had a team win the title for 22 years. Does that mean it’s an easy conference? That said, I think these teams, to name a few, make the SEC a tough conference:
Auburn
Alabama
Arkansas
Florida
Tennessee
Texas A&M

Realize it’s early and Pomeroy really kicks in later, ie January, but the SEC has 11 teams in the top 50 (including LSU at 51). The B1G has 10. I cannot stand the SEC, but to say it’s an easy conference is incorrect IMO.

So lets go down the line on who would win..

Indiana > Tennessee
Illinois > Auburn
Purdue > Alabama
Michigan > Arkansas
Michigan State > Kentucky
Iowa > Florida
Ohio State > Texas A&M

I stand by my statement.

This is UKs most veteran team in years though. They would start 4 jr/sr if Oscar wasn’t hurt. They can’t shoot worth a crap. Cal played straight into Izzy’s strengths. Kept his worst shooter on the same side as Oscar. Izzo locked up the other shooter all game.(kid from Iowa)

someone has been asleep for the B10 ACC challenges, if you believe that's how it is. The Big10 may indeed win more matchups, but the SEC wouldn't get shut out and beating them wouldn't mean they are a bad bball conference unless you believe the B10 is also.

The ACC has only won the ACC vs. B1G challenge twice, since 2008. Their last win was 2017.

Either way, the ACC is a better conference than the SEC, I wouldn't bash them.

my point is, no one ever sweeps and generally they are very close. The SEC I think generally hasn't been as good as the B10 or ACC, but it's also generally in the conversation for the group right after that. Just by it's nature and makeup, it's going to be a pretty good conference in all sports. And, as you well know, we don't want to go basing it on last NC...!

“Last national championship” is a better measure for individual programs than it is for a conference - which is a collection of programs. And I think the Big Ten’s collection of programs, as a whole, has been extremely good since 2000, evidenced by so many different teams playing for a National Championship and many that haven’t still consistently being ranked highly and earning high seeds in the NCAAT.

The Big Ten can still be a great basketball conference while always lacking that one “elite” team that can win it all, though I’d consider “elite” to encompass more than literally winning the NC and would expand it to include Final Four teams (or maybe even ELITE Eight teams 😁). It’s worth noting, too, that our conference has had its share of bad luck over the years, like clearly elite teams like 2005 Illinois or 2007 Ohio State just running into once-in-a-generation teams in 2005 UNC and 2007 Florida, respectively.

I think the Big Ten will surprise in March this year, we’re due! And who knows? UNC was NOT a good basketball team for most of last year, sometimes it’s just about getting hot at the right time!
