CAM questions Hoosiers

Thanks, wow, just wow …

“At some point in time, the coach needs to be not only getting responded to but the coach needs to figure out who is responding,” Miller said. “It’s not equal opportunity as you are struggling. It may be as simple as this guy is not playing well, let’s not play him anymore. Let’s play this guy a little bit more, let’s figure some things out."

I don't see any "wow" in the info. from his show. To me it is the same old thing. He talks a big line about not letting those who don't contribute play, but every game Green is playing often at critical times. He knows what to SAY when questioned , but not what to DO during the game. Funny that he comments there is LOTS of basketball yet to play this season, not sure what schedule he is looking at, but when I look at it all I see is loss after loss.

What else can he say? The seasons over? We're just going to quit? It's all the players fault?

As the coach, he has to keep them going. He has to keep the fanbase hopeful. He has to keep looking for answers. I get the frustration but what do you reasonably think he should say? It's not 1980 anymore. If you get on kids too hard today they just end up in the transfer portal. It's a fine line now between being tough/demanding or letting the players run the show.

Objectively looking at this season we see he's tried moving players around, sitting some, and basically everything in the coaching toolbox. The only thing he hasn't done yet is go small ball and with 4 total guards on scholarship, none of which are playing well, that's some tough sledding. He's given Hunter more minutes but he's got a long way to go to be a true impact player on both ends.

So he goes with his best players, tries to work through the post, and hopes they rebound enough, knock down just enough jumpers, and don't turn it over in order to have a chance to win. Those best players are slow slow and slow - that's just the bigs. The guards get blown by repeatedly or easily picked. The bigs cannot get to the spot fast enough to take away the drive and they cannot recover fast enough to prevent the easy pass at the rim layup.

All this to say, I'm not sure what else you think Archie can tell us. He either figures it out or he doesn't. If not he'll be gone with the new AD coming in. Until that point, don't look for him to say anything more or less. I do believe he is blunt about it. He is not denying their poor play. He's not making excuses. And I still think this team can turn it around if Rob ever gets back to being himself and becomes more aggressive.

we may have the worst guard core in the B1G, at least from a shooting perspective. And possibly post-entry pass perspective. And defensive perspective. And clutch-at-the FT-line perspective.

Going with a 4 guard offense seems like a bad move to me. Maybe we try a 4-big offense, just for kicks?

Ive never liked durham but was told just wait until he becomes an upperclassmen. Still waiting.

Why not Rob,Justin,Jerome,TJD,Brunk how that sound? LOL

I hear a lot of repetition from other interviews. You can only spin it so many times. If you as a coach can't sit the players who play half-heartedly,then you aren't doing your job. I had great respect forCAM when hired but I'm losing it fast, Seems like January and February are like Groundhog's Day with him. Same thing over and over. He loses control of the team.

I like Al's heart and hustle but I think he's physically lacking as a starting B1G guard. He looked great against the cupcake parade in November, but was getting beaten on back door cuts Saturday by Sasha Stefanovic.

That's right. Sasha Stefanovic.

Durham's legs and ankles seem super weak and he appears to have poor balance. I've never seen a player fall so much. I've said it many times, but he needs to really work on strengthening and stretching for his lower body and I think some yoga would really help him. Super easy for opponents to get by and yet he's a pretty good athlete.

Probably is he is almost a senior. Time is running out on him.

Without additions to the class like a 5th year senior, he's still going to play a lot next year. And, as I said, he's fairly athletic and not without talent. Hard to make someone more athletic, but strength, balance, ballhandling and shooting can all be improved on. I'd hoped he'd have made more progress this year, but I think the things he needs can be improved on.

All players can improve, but when it has not happened in years 1-3 it seems unlikely to happen at 4

You don't remember Al very well as a freshman if you think he hasn't improved. Now he makes plays some times and shows some skills. Then all he had was athleticism and very little in the skills department.

You could be right. I live where I do not get games unless BTN. We are not on national stuff much anymore

As a freshman I didn't think he had what it takes to play at this level. The last couple years, I thought he showed he could... if! If, he could improve his shooting, decision making and balance and lateral quickness. It's still way to easy for guys to get by him.
