Butler @ IU, Game 3: IU pounds Butler, 22-3, in 7 inning, 10-run rule game...

RHP Connor Foley is on the mound for IU with an ERA of 3.56 in 30.1 IP and a WHIP of 1.19 with an OBA of .151. The batting order is close to the same as yesterday with Wiggins as the DH and batting 8th. Mitchell is in RF again. It's the first game of the DH today.

It's 74 degrees at game time and it's sunny. The wind is W at 8 mph and gusts to 16 mph and is blowing out toward CF to start the game.

RHP Grant Brooks is on the mound for Butler with an ERA of 8.31 and a WHIP of 1.80 with an OBA of .322.

1st inning:

Foley put them down in order to start the game which included two Ks.

B1st:

The top of the order was the same as it had been in the past few games with Mathison leading off.

Mathison Kd on a full count looking.

Cerny singled with one out. Taylor singled to move Cerny to 3rd with runners on the corners.

Tibbitts singled to score Cerny with runners on 1st and 2nd with one out.

Another single by Mitchell scored Taylor to make it 2-0 with runners on the corners and one out.

Mitchel stole 2nd to take the DP ball out of the equation.

Brenczewski Kd on a full count for the 2nd out.

Pyne who had been in a slump singled to the infield to score two runs with Tibbitts and Mitchell scoring.

Wiggins homered to RF to bring in two more runs. Oliver popped up to SS to end the inning.

2nd inning:

Foley faced the middle of the order. Foley walked the leadoff hitter on a full count.

Foley gave up a two-run homer to right center to cut into the lead.

Foley then got back-to-back Ks. Foley faced former Hoosier Vecrumba hitting in the 8th spot for Butler and Foley Kd him.

B2nd:

It the top of the order up for IU. Butler went to the bullpen and brought in RHP Jake Putnam with an ERA of 27.00 in 2.2 IP and a WHIP of 3.01.

Mathison singled to lead off. Cerny was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs.

Taylor flied out with both runners moving up to 2nd and 3rd and one out.

Tibbitts walked on a 3-1 count to load the bases with one out and Mitchell up.

Mitchell hit a GS to right center to make it 10-2 IU.

Brenczewski grounded out for the 2nd out. Pyne grounded out to end the inning.

Foley faced the 9 thru 2 hitters. Foley put them down in order to include another K.

B3rd:

It's the 8 thru 1 hitters up with Wiggins leading off and he singled.

An Oliver triple scored Wiggins with the top of the order up and no outs.

Mathison walked on a 3-1 count to put runners on the corners and no outs.

Cerny hit a 3-run homer to LF to make it 14-2.

Butler went to the bullpen again to bring in RHP Gage Vota with and ERA of 21.60 in 8.1 IP and a WHIP of 3.48, and he would face Taylor with no outs and no one on.

The 10-run rule was in effect for this series should IU maintain at least a 10 run lead after 7.

Taylor walked on a full count with no outs. Tibbitts grounded out with Taylor taking 2nd.

Mitchell Kd on a full count for the 2nd out. Brenczewski flied out to end the inning.

Foley was back out there to face the 3 thru 5 hitters. Foley has had to sit for a long time in a couple of innings.

Foley got the leadoff hitter on a flyout. Foley then walked a batter on four pitches.

A K along with the runner on 1st caught stealing retired the side.

B4th:

It's the bottom of order up with Pyne leading off. Pyne grounded out for the first out.

Wiggins got his 3rd hit of the game with a one-out single. Oliver Kd on three pitches for two outs.

Mathison reached on an infield hit to put runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs.

Cerny Kd and IU was blanked for the first time in the game.

Foley was back out there to face the 6 thru 8 hitters.

Foley put them down in order.

B5th:

Butler went to the bullpen again to bring in RHP Tate Foxson with an ERA of 27.00 in 4.0 IP and a WHIP of 3.50.

Taylor greeted the new pitcher with a solo homer to LF. Tibbitts flied out for the 1st out.

Mitchell singled to put a runner on with one out. Brenczewski walked on four pitches to runners on 1st and 2nd.

Pyne flied out with Mitchell taking 3rd to put runners on the corners with two outs.

Wiggins got an RBI-single and he was 4 for 4 on the day so far. Runners were at 1st and 2nd with two outs.

Butler went to the bullpen again to bring in RHP Gabe Pancratz with an ERA of 10.12 in 2.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.88, and he faced Oliver.

Oliver cranked a 3-run homer over the CF wall to make it 19-2 with two outs and the top of the order up.

Mathison doubled to put a runner in scoring position with two outs. Cerny grounded out to end the inning.

Colopy went to RF with Mitchell moving to CF. Burckel went to 3rd for Pyne and Carlson replaced Cerny at short.

Foley was back out there to face the 9 thru 2 hitters and Foley walked the leadoff hitter on a full count with the top of the order up.

A single put runners on 1st and 2nd and Foley may be running out of gas. Foley got a K for the first out.

A single loaded the bases with one out. A WP scored a run with runners at 2nd and 3rd and one out.

Foley then got a K for the 2nd out.

With two outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Foley's day was over with the PC at 100, and Mercer brought in LHP Grant Holderfield with an ERA of 16.62 in 8.2 IP and a WHIP of 2.66.

Butler had 8 lefties in the batting order and Holderfield got a groundout to retire the side.

B6th:

Butler brought in RHP Aidan Hatcher with an ERA of 11.25 in 4.0 IP and a WHIP of 3.25.

It was the 3-5 hitters up for IU with Taylor leading off. Taylor singled to put a runner on.

Murrison pinch ran for Taylor.

Tibbitts doubled to put runners at 2nd and 3rd and no outs. Schuyler pinch ran for Tibbitts.

Mitchell hit a SAC fly to score Murrison with a runner at 2nd and one out.

Schuyler moved to 3rd on a passed ball. Brenczewski Kd for the 2nd out.

Burckel reached on an error with Schuyler scoring on the play. A runner was at 2nd and two outs.

A WP moved Burckel to 3rd and two outs. Wiggins walked to put runners on the corners.

Oliver walked on a 3-1 count to load the bases with two outs and Colopy up.

Colopy walked in a run on a full count with the bases still loaded and two outs in an inning that seemed to last forever.

Butler brought in RHP Christian Finnigan with an ERA of 8.53 in 6.1 IP and a WHIP of 2.05.

Carlson Kd to end the inning.

Holderfield was back out there to face the 6 thru 8 hitters in what should be the final inning of the game.

Holderfield Kd the leadoff hitter. An error by Carlson put a runner on 2nd on a bad throw to 1st with one out.

Holderfield then got back-to-back Ks to end the game.

The second game of the DH will be played in approximately 30 minutes after this game.

IU outhit Butler 20-3 and had two doubles, a triple, and five homers. Everyone in the starting lineup had at least one hit except for Brenczewski and Wiggins went 4 for 4 as the DH. Mitchell had a grand slam and six RBIs on the game. IU almost got out of another game without an error, but one was committed in the final inning with the replacement players on the field, but that runner was left on base.

Foley pitched well despite a lot of idle time in the dugout between innings that were going long with all of the hits and pitching changes by Butler.
