BTW, how was Ramsey's passing today?

Ramsey's arm was much livelier today. My only complaint was early on he missed several open receivers while focused on forcing someone else open. Seemed to clear up by the second quarter.

In my opinion, some beautiful throws and ball placement by Ramsey. One he threw to Timian in a seam was absolutely gorgeous right where it needed to be. Another on a roll out he lofted just over the outstretched hands of a LB to Bijorson. I thought Ramsey managed the game great today. The QB keepers were so well disguised. He rolled out one time, recognized nobody in front of him and turned on the jets. I guess this is so bewildering for me as a fan as I haven’t seen this from IU for the better part of the last decade. It was pocket passing only.

Is his arm anything close to what I'm seeing tonight from Drew Lock of Missouri against PU?

BTW, sometimes I think arm strength is overrated . . . throwing a ball that receivers can catch can be more important than power throwing, just like putting and chipping can be more important than driving on the golf course.

Accuracy > arm strength

He did miss some open receivers (i.e. didn’t see them) but was accurate and otherwise made good decisions.

He looked good but not as good as either of the QBs playing in west Laughy tonight.

That lofted pass to Bijorson was a thing of beauty.

As for the comment about PU...they have got to be the best 0-3 team in the country. Blough(572 yds today) was excellent...they got help from a lot of homer calls but they did enough...they got talent...we better be ready for them when the time comes...only Rutgers looks weak from where I sit. No gimmies waiting for us imo.

Missouri has a Doug Mallory IU defense.

They seem to play just below the level of their competition.

Too many mental mistakes...but tonight I got the feeling that whichever team had the ball last would win...lol A real shootout. If they ever put it all together they will be tough to play against...

Purdue has always had QBs. This should not be some shock. However, there wasn’t a lot of defense being played on either side there tonight. I think many QBs would look good. Where was the pass rush? Purdue ties the game at 37. Mizzou marches right down the field in 3 minutes. Lock and Blough are veteran QBs doing exactly what they should. We have a sophomore and a true freshman. So, to say “they are better”....I’d expect them to be. Purdue fans watched 4 years of Blough and he wasn’t like this from Day 1. He struggled and then matured. Sudfeld was the same. It’s called maturation.

All true...but don't sell them short...we will get their best game...we may be their bowl...vbg

There were 2 horrible calls in the game:

1st half: Purdue CB hits WR two seconds before ball arrives. Blatant PI. Very obvious. The result would have been 15 yards and likely been a TD in the series.
Mizzou has to line up for a field goal and it’s blocked. Huge momentum shift.

2nd Half - the catch/bobble in the back of the end zone by Sparks. Okay - I could see the ball appear to hit the turf and bobble back up into his hand but it was so obscure and the ruling was TD in the field. I was shocked it was considered conclusive evidence to overturn. Must have been a different angle? Hey - I hate our rivals to the north but having watched that kind of stuff happen to IU over the decade (Iowa game at Iowa, Michigan game Doss catch) can definitely relate to fan frustration on that stuff.

Agree on the first but the catch looked dropped to me in the replay. Looked evident to me but that's subjective I guess. Brave call in any case considering...

I think Ramsey is excellent at managing this offense, but I'm not convinced that this offense can win the big games. His yards per attempt is very low and I recall very few completed passes over 10 yards. This is not an explosive offense at all. I don't know if they are incapable of big plays or if Debord is being intentionally conservative. If someone is able to shut down our run game, I think we will have problems because I don't see us being a team that can make first downs on 3rd and long. Let's see what happens. I would have liked to see a few down field passes against BSU to assess where we are at, and also would have liked to see a little variety in the running game. Maybe they held back, but I think Debord is a very conservative play caller.

I was surprised that they had the stones to overturn the TD, but it was the right call based on one angle, and actually that didn't change the outcome as Mizzu was going to win on that last drive either way.

The missed PI had a greater impact on the game allowing PU to get back into it rather than a blowout.

You're wrong. Mick Mccall has used this offense at Northwestern for years with good success.

It's the passing equivalent of "three yards and a cloud of dust". You can win a lot of football games that way. I think the Ramsey doubters and the Penix proponents are looking for more flash and style. I'm happy with boring wins.

That's not my argument. It was very clear after yesterday's game that PR is the starter for a reason. He has a great feel for this offense and makes the correct reads. I'm simply saying that this is not an explosive offense and it may struggle against an opponent who effectively stops our run game. We should have a much better idea after Saturday.

Did you watch the FIU game? Did you see our first TD of the season? It was a pass ("only" 18 yards) from Ramsey to Hale that most college QBs wouldn't have been able to complete.

Ramsey has done everything asked of him this season, and he's done it well. Of course the play calling was conservative in the Virginia game - - the conditions were terrible - - but Ramsey managed a terrific game. Yesterday Ramsey and the Hoosiers dominated a team that gave Notre Dame fits the week before. Has the playbook been fully opened? No, but why would they do that before they need to, and before we've started conference play?

If I was a defensive coordinator, I would actually dread playing IU. Look at the weapons we have on offense. Ramsey spread it around among so many receivers yesterday Ball State didn't know where to look next. Scott at RB has been amazing, and Walker looks like he's got a ton of potential. The OL is much improved, and we have two (count 'em, two) QBs who can play at a high level. Oh, and we're 3-0. DeBord and the offense are looking pretty good from where I sit.

It's a function of the playbook. If you are calling a ton of short passes your completion percentage is going to be higher.

Ok, so following your logic...3-0 is inflated as well. What is IU in reality...1-2? 2-1? 1.5-1.5?

We have such balance on O I don’t think we’re used to it. We can run and pass and control line of scrimmage. Usually we have to rely on a few players. So far this season we’re taking what we’re given. I could get used to this. Hope we continue to look good next week.
Go Hoosiers!

That overturned TD in the 2nd half can happen to them every week for eternity, and I, for one, would smile ear to ear!!!!
