BTN basketball guys say IU is...

Based on early results I’d say the best teams right now are Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin, IU, Northwestern, and perhaps Ohio St. Not necessarily in this order.

I’m not buying early favorite, Michigan St. but they tend to get much better as the season progresses. I see IU only getting better, so there is no way we should finish 7th. I’m thinking top 4, perhaps.

At best the seventh best team in the big ten. I hope Woodson puts that on the bulletin board. And uses that to motivate the Hoosiers.
Last night, they seemed motivated already.

With all the other crap going on in their schedules, I can't imagine an "unmotivated" player suddenly becoming "motivated" merely because of a comment like that.

I'm sure Woodson has better methods.

Edit to add:

Here is a photo of a highly effective motivation tool:

I mean who cares. 7th is probably about right. The thing is 2nd to 9th won’t be seperated by much. Getting that road win is pretty damn important. Win your home games and hope to steal a few more road games.

That's my thought. We win ugly vs. garbage competition and IU sux! Give a team like Michigan its 5th loss in 6 games and suddenly we're a top 4 team in the B1G. We certainly can continue to improve and/or the B1G can continue to show us the league is just down but let's keep an even head about things.

We have 23 games left, 10 of those are on the road. Of the 13 home games, Kansas and Purdue are basically 1 seeds and Wisconsin is ranked and will be tough. This is not to say we won't continue to handles teams but I wish folks would sit back and continue to watch. If we beat Auburn and then come home and beat Kansas, finish 5-0 through this non-conference stretch putting us at 12-1 with 18 games left. Then I can imagine we have room to believe or assume we're a top 5 B1G team. Until then, we have yet to even beat 1 ranked team so we're crazy to assume we're good based on what we've done so far.

Not if his NIL check cashes.

Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin, and OSU certainly better. Jury out on NW and Izzo will likely get MSU playing well but they suck currently. 7th is possible but I think we'll finish a spot or 2 higher.

Hey, can anyone shed some light for me on why Xavier Booker isn’t playing for Sparty? Hurt, in the doghouse….remember when he was a must get for us, Indiana kid blah blah blah just weird how a 5 star doesn’t even see the floor… possible portal target for us?

Yeah, go get another 5* like Lander?

As of yesterday Vegas has IU finishing 6th. They are eerily accurate quite often. Less so on futures though. So take it how you want...

Betting odds are not necessarily based on being "accurate,"

Instead, they are based on attracting money to one side of the bet or the other. That's why point spreads change when a bookie's original spread attracts too much money to one side of the proposition. I've repeatedly read that bookies want half the bets to be on each side of the transaction so that the losing bets provide the money to pay the winners.

So, the spreads set by bookies may or may not have anything to do with the bookies' judgment as to which team will win and by how much.

He is not hurt. He is basically just “not ready” and hasn’t earned much court time. He is one of the 4 highest MSU recruits in the last 20 years yet after 7 games has a total of 17 points and 11 boards.

Hummel knows stuff
He has certainly improved. Will see if he gets a good job before long. I tend to turn the sound down as not many guys add much. Occasionally listen to Fisch as a nostalgia thing as he won’t be around much longer.

“At best” = absolute ceiling, and that they expect a finish LOWER than 7th. Thus, a fairly stupid stance.
If they “expect” IU to finish 7th, that is not unreasonable.

“At best”… IU can definitely finish higher. Maybe 5th, 4th, who knows?

“At worst” 9th? 10th?

I agree with your thoughts, but it feels like IU could finish anywhere between 2nd and 7th. I think the 6 teams you mentioned other than Purdue will be pretty clumped together, as all have significant weaknesses.

I think when we look at things as fans we do so with rose colored glasses. Someone else looking at IU sees one star, 1 very nice player (MR), 1 wildly consistent and oft-injured pg who is occasionally brilliant, and then a bunch of ?s. Teams like NW and Wisconsin don't appear to have the upside of MSU, IU, OSU, and Illinois, but right now they really have their s*it together.

Because he is a low motor, contact avoiding big who wants to play like KD, but without those skills.

My 2 cents

No, B10 teams don’t play like Auburn and this is why B10 doesn’t go to FF’s. There’s not a team in the league that could’ve won this today. IU will finish no lower than 6th.

Today’s game nor the previous wins change a thing: IU is a 8-12 place team this year and that is pretty much how it was going to play out before the season even started. It’s a normal finish for this basketball program, other than the occasional higher finish, this is the IU average.

When does football start? All aboard?

I don’t know where they will finish, a lot will depend on when and if X gets healthy

You are correct though that BIG is a WWE event where other leagues have evolved and are officiated more appropriately.

I like Hummel but he’s slowly turning into Herbstreit who talks too much to fill in time.
Robbie has really improved after a rough first couple of years. He has a great voice and knows ball.

His objectivity is good with the exception of tight PU games but that is to be expected

As Hummel’s body of work, and his confidence, have increased, he has begun to sound somewhat like Troy Aikman. Not a bad thing, except that Aikman, like Herbstreit, others, talks too much. Perhaps the increased workload, visibility, & notoriety, cause that to happen?

The Announcer with whom these guys work makes a big difference, IMO. Some Announcers defer to the Analyst to fill most of the air time.

That is sad to think about with Fisch having fewer days ahead of him. It will feel like it did when Coach Knight got fired. He was the only coach at IU that I had known. Fisch is the voice of IU on the radio. It was even weird when Chuck Crabb retired.
