The other chant of theirs is "1 2 3 4...first down bitch". Which was answered a few times by some IU fans when we got a first down on first down... "1...first down bitch". Good IU crowd there, nearly 50% at the beginning and more than that in the second half.
That may have been the smallest crowd at PU for a bucket that i can remember. I didn't realize it had gotten that bad. Believe it or not, I hate to see it. Does no one back their team through hard times anymore? Maybe I've been too hard on some if our fans who went negative. At least they care enough to show up for games and here. There was enough room to graze cattle in the stands.
Why would we back the worst 3 year stretch in our history? It's unacceptable and our athletic department doesn't care.
I feel your pain. Remember, I'm an IU fan. Vbg. I was just surprised. Havent been up there in a long time but remember full houses and an intense crowd. IU has always struggled to fill the stands. For a program like yours, its just sad to see. One thing I'm certain of is you will be back up. Several of my family attended PU and I know you have way more tradition than we have here in FB. Buck up...your day will come again.
not sure Hazel would have survived anyway but I'm pretty sure that display of zero discipline by his team sealed his fate if the scoreboard didn't
Hazell is coming back. I don't think Burke is going to part with him while he is still AD. He did already announced it after the Nebraska game....unless it is just lip service.
For context though, the weather pre game was awful especially in Indy and I know some folks bailed last minute.
Don and Buck both commented they had never seen anything like it at PU. I know I haven't. Weather and absense of students hurt but does not explain why so few. Times are just changing. TV is the difference I think.
I think playing the game on thanksgiving weekend has pushed down attendance at both venues for this game. It would be nice if both teams were good enough that students were willing to shave two days off thanksgiving break, and if alumni and fans were willing to build their holiday plans around the game. At this point, though, I wonder if we should consider playing earlier in the season.
