Curious as to other Hoosier fans' predictions for breakout players on both sides of the ball. I personally am feeling Nile Sykes at LB on defense, and i go with a true freshman in Nick Westbrook at WR. Thoughts?

Troy Fields. He's going to get every chance to start at SS now that Allen is gone. I think he's got a lot of ability and will put up solid numbers.

I'll take Camion Patrick on offense, big - older, and experienced wr we need badly. And Gooch at LB as Scales has really already broken out.

Come on boys....that's Tony Fields. Let's go with Darius Lathum on the d side of the ball and finally......wait for it.......Danny Friend on the o side. The big tight end will finally be a weapon that 7 will go to.

My breakout guys are Patrick at WR and Sykes at rush LB. Darius will have a hell of a year rushing from the opposite side. We will have a pass rush like we had back when Coach Hep was here.

I think Patrick on the offensive side. That kid has Latimer-like talent, so let's hope it transfers to the field. On defense, I am going with Donovan Clark at CB. I saw flashes last year as a Frosh, but I think he becomes our best corner.

My second picks are Fuchs at TE (that time on the hoop team will really help his confidence). On defense, this is the year Latham creates big problems for opposing coaches.

All great names, I'll add a couple more, Tim Gardner at right tackle and Robert McCray III at defensive end.

The LB/Bandit position sure has a bunch of guys who seem capable of huge game:

Omari Stringer
Nile Sykes
Zeke Walker
Dameon Willis
Chris Covington
Clyde Newton
Dawson Fletcher
Zack Shaw
Reakwon Jones
Greg Gooch
Marcus Oliver
Tegray Scales
T.J. Simmons

The good thing about every breakout player mentioned is that they were a highly rated recruit. We're not expecting a MAC-level talent to breakout, we're expecting guys who were once committed to places like Notre Dame, OSU, or were offered by high level BCS programs, to break out. We're not asking a Matt Perez to become an All Big Ten player. We're asking a high level 3 star or 4 star talent to start playing like it. Not saying a player like Matt Perez, Adarius Rayner or Bobby Richardson don't break out, we've seen they do, but it's a little more comfortable asking a Darius Latham and Rashard Fant to start playing up to their hype than asking someone who's probably reached his ceiling to start surpassing it. So it makes me more optimistic.

Might add Clyde Newton or Dameon Willis to the list. Whoever wins that spot needs to come up big in our defense and I think Dameon was scout team defensive player of the year last year, which usually means good things.
