I mean a ball control running back. That's how we won tonight.
You nailed it...seems almost impossible only 2 TD out of that many yards. Means too many lost 3rd downs...line work.I don't disagree but the coaches need to figure out a way to get points out of those long drives. To have a RB get over 200 yds and only score 20 pts, something wasn't quite right. I didn't like the playcalling.
And one of those came after a fumble recovery at the 20.You nailed it...seems almost impossible only 2 TD out of that many yards. Means too many lost 3rd downs...line work.
Ramsey is not a dynamic enough play maker at QB, plain and simple. Look no further, he just does not have a real strong arm and it hurts the offense.
Penix should be playing, I'm befuddled.
I didn't think they would put him in tonight. The weather was to sh*tty and Peyton kept in under control. I'll give him a pass tonight in regards to zipped balls because of the weather. Solid effort all the way around and we showed some real toughness on a difficult night.Ramsey is not a dynamic enough play maker at QB, plain and simple. By any metric, a true road win and a monsoon madness victory over Virginia, says to me we are better than just an o. k. Team.I wanted to see Penix for a few series but Ramsey did some things with his legs to keep the ball moving. He threw a great ball to Westbrook in the end zone and hit Timian on some 10 yard crossing routes to move the sticks. He’s a game manager, which is what you need in conditions like this. In good conditions, he throws for a bunch more yards.
It’s where you really see the lack of offensive playmakers. Need to really up the ante in recruiting to get this to change.I don't disagree but the coaches need to figure out a way to get points out of those long drives. If you can’t add anything of value, please don’t respond to the thread instead of just complaining about nothing.Good grief, you have to be the most irritating troll on here.
If you are an IU fan then please just STFU because reading your negativity gets old. We are 2-0 in this season. We are not Alabama. Both of these games are ones we would have lost in the past. No defense Wilson would have NEVER beaten UV in that deluge.
We have guys in Hale and others that will be playing on Sunday.

Dude, you serious?? There's plenty of playmakers on offense. Donovan Hale, Westbrook, Luke Timian, Stevie Scott at RB, Whop and of course true frosh MP.It’s where you really see the lack of offensive playmakers. Need to really up the ante in recruiting to get this to change.
I disagree with your comments about playmakers. We have some talent there but they are learning.
I will give you a prime example:
On our 3rd series of the 2nd half we complete a long 3rd down completion to Fryfogel (the one he trapped against his leg)
We pound up the middle with Scott for good gains on the next thre snaps for first down.
We get a PI and a hold, offsetting penalties on a throw to Whop.
We complete a 4 yard pass to Hendershot. Now, 2nd and 6 at their 36.
Scott runs up the guy for 7 yards.
QB keeper by Ramsey for 2 yards. 2nd and 7 on their 27.
***Here is the key play***
They give the ball to Reese Taylor on an apparent jet sweep in motion but he was supposed to hand the ball back off to Whop Philyor on a reverse and there was all sorts of real estate for Whop to run. The DL has penetrated but tackled the RB in the process leaving Whop with tons of running room to the opposite side. As Reese came off the field, you could see Hart look at him with his palms raised as if “Why didn’t you give the ball to Whop?” A rookie mistake.
Well, at some point, playmakers have to make plays. Scott made a couple last night, for sure.I disagree with your comments about playmakers. We have some talent there but they are learning.

At some point, all those playmakers have to actually make some plays (specifically, explosion plays). Just saying they’re playmakers doesn’t make it so, IMO.Dude, you serious?? The problem last night was the weather. How much did the monsoon affect scoring. I think it killed Ramsey's ability to pass the ball. Regardless, you lose credibility if you truly think iu doesn't have playmakers on offense.

If the kid understood what the play was and kept it instead for ball security reasons, then he should -- and I suspect will -- get a pat on the back. Film will determine if he made the right call or not.As you stated, UVA defenders busted the play with penetration, and there were a number of dangers there. I also noticed Mike Hart grilling Reese on the sideline afterwards. It was a 50-50 call on Reese's part.
I agree with this. It feels like Westbrook is getting his feel for the game back, TBH. Hale has made some fine plays the opening two weeks and that's exciting for IU football. The discovery of Scott is notable as he looked like an All Big Ten performer last night! At some point, all those playmakers have to actually make some plays (specifically, explosion plays). To be fair, the play CC described didn’t fit the weather conditions and should have, in my view, been left in the trick bag for another day. Too many ways it could blow up given the wind and rain.I agree with this. It feels like Westbrook is getting his feel for the game back, TBH. To me it looked like Reese was supposed to pitch the ball to Whop (as opposed to a hand off) and I think Reese kept the ball because the pitching lane/window was pretty tight. As you stated, UVA defenders busted the play with penetration, and there were a number of dangers there. I also noticed Mike Hart grilling Reese on the sideline afterwards. I’ll take any points we can get in that weather.I don't disagree but the coaches need to figure out a way to get points out of those long drives. To have a RB get over 200 yds and only score 20 pts, something wasn't quite right. I didn't like the playcalling.
The weather conditions were a lot more conducive to the intended reverse play than most of the pass plays in Ramsey's playbook, so I don't know why you're complaining about pass-game playmakers when weather conditions clearly made it really difficult and risky for Ramsey to get anything going through the air. In any case, that playmaker talk is so empty. To be fair, the play CC described didn’t fit the weather conditions and should have, in my view, been left in the trick bag for another day. I didn’t specifically mention “pass-game playmakers”, only a general lack of playmakers. And the stats beat it out, so it’s not empty. And the conditions made it a perilous play call, at best. The weather conditions were a lot more conducive to the intended reverse play than most of the pass plays in Ramsey's playbook, so I don't know why you're complaining about pass-game playmakers when weather conditions clearly made it really difficult and risky for Ramsey to get anything going through the air. Offensive play execution is way too slow. QB holdsYou nailed it...seems almost impossible only 2 TD out of that many yards. Means too many lost 3rd downs...line work.
Yes - a pitch. They had a DL break through and he was tackling our RB, either Brookins or Majette (couldn’t see) thinking they had the ball. Reese took a bit deeper route and still could have tossed to Whop and there was a bunch of space over there on the opposite field. Their DL, LBs and CBs were charging hard to the East sideline. They would have literally had to stop, plant and change direction. Nobody for Virginia over there on the West side. Whop would have gone for a long gainer.

What was your question about facilities? And wanting IU to have better players and a better program is hardly bitching and moaning, though I don’t understand why more people don’t want that, as well.Me complain??? Pot meet kettle. You bitch about everything from the coach to players to the facilities. By the way, you never did answer my questions in regards to facilities.
And exactly how does that quote add anything of value?
Face it, you just like to bitch and moan.
We need more trickery in our offense. Fleaflickers, reverse passes from Reese, QB option plays, maybe some flexbone mis-direction with Reese and Whop as WBs and Scott as the FB. Debord needs to get creative if we want to beat good teams
Whop and Reese are too dangerous to not touch the ball.
We've had the first shakedown game of the season and then a second game in a typhoon, fer cryin' out loud, and people are calling for razzle dazzle. This place is comical.I personally think IU is staying vanilla and will expand passing in conference. I think our coaches think they can win without the flash.
I have no facts to back it up. Just impression I get listening to coaches talk.
We call them hurricanes on this side of the world. We've had the first shakedown game of the season and then a second game in a typhoon, fer cryin' out loud, and people are calling for razzle dazzle. This place is comical.
