Brandon Dawson provides perspective on his decision

He’s going through some mental health battles. He made the right choice. Lot of pressure in college football and he was astute enough to recognize it was affecting his health. He’s probably been going through it for a while and thought a fresh start would help. When it didn’t, he did the right thing and stepped away.

Obviously everyone wishes him a safe and healthy recovery throughout his life.

Question becomes what other choices did IU have with transfers? If any? From what I read I assume that IU was fully aware of his issues as he was getting help at Arizona. Now we are stuck with a true freshman athlete that spent the summer playing defense as our third string guy. I’m sure the hope was Penix would use a red shirt this year. Maybe we could have hung onto our transfer for another year? Why role the dice on such a shaky bet?

Pabst and Fiacable are still on the roster. Pabst looked really good in the spring game. Not sure why he isn't getting any mentions. He roped a TD pass downfield in the spring game that left me shaking my head and it was in between defenders.

So much innuendo...based on nothing but someone from the outside trying to guess what's going on in the inside. In this case, maybe all cases, harm can be done, unintended if thoughtless. This mans struggle needs no extra baggage to carry. Now the alligator tears...

When it comes to individual players, other than their play on the field or in public, should simply be hands off. Some of you act as if you were never young yourself, or made a mistake. As a policy, as adults, lets think before we type. Just for them. I will.
