Not a "hire Stevens" post. But man, if you go through recent social media, Celtics fans are calling for his head. I mean, it's like Tom Crean/IU kind of responses.

Are things that shaky in Beantown?

Maybe someday. If the Celtics don't win a Championship in the next 2 years, maybe they do make a change. The question is, does Stevens even want to return to the college game? i'm sure he will still have a choice of pro jobs if he were to be fired in Boston. And if he does, would he rather take a job at Duke or UNC when those open up rather than a rebuild of IU?

But I still don't think he's going anywhere.

I don’t think he willingly dumps the C’s and returns to college hoops. But I do think that if he were to be fired, he would return to college instead of dabbling elsewhere in the NBA.

If that happens and IU is coach shopping, they’ll get him. He’s an Indiana boy and restoring the program would probably be a dream come true. But if he returns to college and Indiana isn’t searching, he’ll likely go to a big time school. And that’ll be the book closing on IU’s chances at him because he possesses a rare trait - loyalty.

Great post.

Let’s say somehow Boston is crazy enough to fire BS after next season. We’ve already heard from @fpeaugh and @victorbear how bad next year is gonna be - which is why they want Archie gone now.

So, fpeaugh, when we hire Tony Bennett away from UVA to replace Archie in early April of this year, what you gonna say when BS is then available - FIRE BENNETT!!

If it comes to that, yes! You don’t miss Brad for the 2nd time.

And of course, even though BS is such an extraordinary coach, he should get a fair amount of time, taking into account his talent, to get his program into place. So, Miller got 2 years, Bennett got one year, so BS should get about 3.5 games.

I don't think he's returning to college. In coaching circles NBA jobs are viewed as more desirable because they don't have to recruit, deal with alumni, or arcane NCAA rules and they have better travel accommodations... they can just focus on bball. If the Celtics were to let him go, he'd have his pick of several NBA jobs. Doubtful he's returning to the college game unfortunately.

When he went to the Celtics, he said his wife never wanted him to go back to the college game. Her reasons were that his kids never got to see him because college is a never ending job. You are constantly on the recruiting trail the entire year. That's doesn't mean things haven't changed, but at the time he said he'd never go back.

I can give a golf lesson an 8 year old kid any day of the week. He wants to make his old man proud and get his first birdie someday. Works diligently through the lesson, allows me to tweak his grip or swing. It’s easy. I’m the best instructor in town. You give me a high school student and he’s racked up a few birdies in his day - He wants to get to the next level. He’s more talented so this should be easier, but it’s not. Confidence problems, throwing fits between shots, mental block, etc. Hour later, we’ve made no progression.

Just because someone coaches well at the mid-major (or non-powerhouse school) level, doesn’t mean they’ll be successful at the top of the food chain. Davis, Crean, Miller. They did great with their “blue collar” players who bust their a$$ to see the light of a NCAA tournament game. Strong fundamentals, low talent. Tough players. Small fan base and students care, but there’s no demand for success.

These guys are offered a job at the top of the food chain at IU. Elite 5-star recruit per year (maybe 2!) huge selection of talented 4-stars. Sounds good, huh? Flip the script. These kids all believe they are special, there’s sensitive egos involved. Raw talent, high upside, developing fundamentals. The fan base is breathing down your neck so hard and magnifiying your every move to the point where you may as well log your bathroom breaks on a spreadsheet.

It’s hard to pull a guy from one environment and place him a 110% different situation then expect him results. Bottom line - IU has to find coaches with either NBA experience or find a way to snag a guy away from a top-tier program. This whole stealing coaches from the poor has got to stop or the same madness will stay on repeat.

Guess you missed this part, huh?

So, we fire Archie after two years to hire Bennett (for how much? $9 million? Like big money worked last time ).

Then we fire Bennett AFTER 1 YEAR to hire Stevens? Your dumb ass REALLY thinks he’d come here with that kind of job stability? That kind of loyalty? What kinda of money you gonna offer Brad to make that happen - $20 mil? $25 mil?

So you'll be paying on 3 coaches for one coaching job - because “that’s how the big boys that care about basketball do it”, right?

YDS . . .

Lots of good points.

I haven’t been the happiest with Miller this year. But I don’t think he’s this horrible coach, either.

Give him another year at the least. If we’re still having these same issues at the end of next year, then we can talk about maybe looking elsewhere.

I’m not an Indiana fan - I just happen to live here and I’m surrounded by all you knuckleheads that would cut off a limb to just return to being competitive. I’d actually be willing to cut off a limb if I never had to hear my brother reference the 80s and Indiana basketball basketball in the same sentence.

I do have a hidden love for the Hoosiers though, I wish they’d figure it the F out. Even aside from my “why IU can’t find a good coach” logic, it’s unbelieveable that all of these guys have been miserable failures.

So, you are not an IU fan, yet you went and searched out a Hoosier message board and got yourself a SILVER MEMBERSHIP because of all the "knuckleheads" who talk about IU.

At least somebody understands

And then, after 3.5 games of Stevens, we get serious. We can throw $100 million at Phil Jackson, and give him a game, then spend $50 billion to dig up and reanimate James Naismith, since we need to get back to the way basketball should be played, and give him a practice or two.

Then we go after Steve Alford.

Relax, “knuckleheads” was playful banter.

In ‘02 I was in elementary, barely old enough to understand basketball. I Went with the family down to Rupp in Lexington to watch IU play. I realized the name of the team they were playing was the same as my grandparent’s dog. (Duke) — I thought that was about the world’s coolest thing, even though IU beat ‘em. It’s been almost 2 decades since that game and I’m still just as obsessed.

I paid for my Duke membership, IU’s is on a free trial. Considering I still somewhat follow the Hoosiers, I thought I’d check it out.

How much longer is Pop going to be around? I could see BS in San Antonio but he might not be able to beat out Becky for the job.

So safe to say you never went to Duke. Like most Duke fans.

You don't fire Tony Bennett, 2 years in, to get Stevens. Bennett might be a better coach. They are both elite and if we ever hire either one of them, I will be become a bigger fanboy than IUSCOTT.

I really don't want to have peach baskets anymore. Bad idea.

And if he does, would he rather take a job at Duke or UNC when those open up rather than a rebuild of IU?
UNC has hired from within their own coaching circle since the 50s. They've practically ran the UNC system for 67 years. Same emphasis on fast break, same side line traps, same secondary breaks. A player from 52 ran some of the same drills as a player from 19. He has no connections to that program.

You look like you are undergoing some kind of Kylie Jenner transition?

Are you wearing eye liner in the photo? ..not that this is wrong or anything.

He’s a reincarnated member of the Negative Nellie Snark Club.

Don't be ridiculous. BS would get more than 3.5 games. He'd get 4 whole games; maybe even 5 if fpeaugh is feeling very patient.

That’s stupid....no way did she say this

Whether or not she said it I can't say for sure but it was stated that she did at the time he took the Celtics job. So it's not something that was made up just now, it's been out there for years.

Please elaborate on why it's stupid. There are many reasons why coaching professionally would be preferred by many coaches. Better money and actually having an off-season would definitely be two big draws.

Back up the Brinks truck and hire Brad Stevens.
IU coaching search done for 30 years.

The Celtics consider themselves a "blue blood" of the NBA even though that time has long passed. They've gone through like 10 coaches in 30 years always trying to find Red Auerbach and the glory days.

I think BS is the one guy who could definitely get IU out of the mess they appear to be in. I hope to God he never shows up in Bloomington. The glory days might return with a man even Boiler fans would respect. Go Celtics! lol
