It looks like the Boeing rocket and moon missions are on the chopping block. This may be a good idea, I'm sure there are more qualified people than I to determine this. I love space exploration but realize it has to have some cuts like virtually everything else.

All that said, cutting Musk's chief competitor with him having an outsized role creates conflict of interest problems. I am not saying it is, Must may well have had no input whatsoever. But IF he has offered advice on this it is a problem. I am sure we will find out more.

It will be interesting to see if the moon missions are cancelled. Quite a few experts believe we are in a race with China for the areas of the moon that have water. Whomever gets to the water first can use it to get to Mars. Most believe that is the best approach to Mars. Musk does not, he wants to go straight to Mars. That means any water has to be lifted off of the earth which is far more difficult. The water can be drank, or converted to oxygen or to fuel.

They've screwed up practically everything they've touched over the past 5 years so I'm guessing future astronauts out there are breathing a major sigh of relief upon hearing this news...
