BiG Uniform Rankings from USA Today Iowa Beat Writer

I dislike the Purdue unis. The railroad tracks on the helmet don't do it for me.

Also not a fan of Northwestern with the horizontal stripes.

My favorite is Penn State. I wouldn't necessarily like it on a lot of teams, but traditional unis work when a team has been good for as long as they have, seems more classic. I think that goes for any number of historically blue blood teams across sports. Yankees, IU-MBB, Notre Dame, etc.

The top 3 are all based on program prestige/tradition. There is nothing special about the uniforms.
I noticed the same thing. There is certainly nothing special about the Ahia unis, UM just has that yellow design on the helmet, which is very identifiable, and the Pen St unis are the traditional minimalist "stormtrooper" look which is fine. Like i said, there are four or so I dislike, and the rest are all just fine.

We're wearing the Mallory helmets from the Cincy game this year.
I'm glad to hear this. I thought those uniforms looked great. I've been wondering since they wore these helmets during spring ball but they had the pitchfork IU.

Have you seen this confirmed somewhere? Will it be the same tops/pants we wore vs. Cincy as well?

Yes, the helmet will be the Mallory version with the pitchfork, although they can stick a block I on there for certain games like Purdue. It’s in all the graphics on social media (notice the helmet stripes theme in the tweets below), and I have a source that would know.

As far as the throwback unis go, I’ve heard anywhere from they will be permanent, there will be something similar, or that they will be worn “more often.” Nothing confirmed, but again, they sure are putting out a lot of recruiting material with them. Personally I hope we stick with them and have a white version.

Thanks RBB. I'm with you on this one. I think the throwbacks are a great look. Unique but not too flashy. The black facemask and bordering is sharp. And they represent a great time period in Indiana football history.

The helmet rail road track is an homage to the ‘Boilermaker Special‘ locomotive mascot introduced in 1940.
They could have done worse. I’m sure some here would wish they had.

LOL, oh I get it. I just think it looks goofy.

I kind of dig the railroad tracks painted onto the turf around the field, but the helmet is a bridge too far for me.

In my opinion there is an inverse relationship between the quality of the football program and the amount of effort put into redesigning uniforms.

They seem to be in different unis every time I see them. None stand out one way or the other but never noticed rr tracks lol

As long as it is the IU pitchfork I can say keep it permanent.

I'd Very much prefer that we lose the ridiculous "ode to the candy stripes" motif on the sleeves. This is FOOTBALL not basketball...

I'm a "less is more" kind of guy... Give me the simplicity of the 86/87 uniform schemes (with either the pitchfork or block I) and I'd be happy...

Last years vs Cinci unis seem a little "busy" to me but don't worry, no one will call for my input...
