I'm curious as to people's thoughts on why we aren't targeting bigger name QB recruits in general. This isn't necessarily a 2* vs. 5* recruit discussion, but rather, in conjunction with the rating system I would think a big time QB recruit might see Sudfeld's numbers, the ability to potentially play right away next year, and a team that is competitive week in and week out, as an opportunity to step in and be a star.
I look at Cardale Jones at OSU, or Kyler Murray at Texas A&M. Both were big time recruits who chose to go to schools with other big time QB recruits already in place. I know there have to be more out there than just these two names, but those are what come to mind right away. Likely, neither of these guys will be starting for their respective teams the remainder of the year, and will seek transfer at the end of the year.
At some point players cannot be so naive all the time to think that they are just going to step in and beat out the other 4* and 5* QBs on the roster. Those other QBs had just as illustrious of a HS career as them. This happens in Bball all the time. Players choose schools often because they know they can step in and contribute immediately (i.e. Thomas Bryant).
There is a chance Sudfeld is going to get NFL looks, is on every QB award list currently, and is having a banner year statistically. With him leaving I would think you could present the scenario to a top QB recruit and he'd love to be able to step in. Even if he red shirted we likely wouldn't be able to start grabbing top tier QBs year in and year out so this recruit has a fantastic opportunity.
