Biden Townhall

what's more it has 5.2 mil registered dems and 5.1 registered pubs. crist is a popular strong candidate. he's a moderate that's hitting desantis hard on numerous issues that at least by topic have broader applications. for instance he's slamming desantis on climate issues from the raging red tides to the eroding shores to wit desantis is ostensibly doing little to combat. i suspect we will be able to extrapolate the results of the fla gubernatorial election to a presidential election involving desantis. then where the gop stands w/ re to "frontrunners" for prez will begin to take shape

Yeah, but at this rate, by the time the governor election rolls around, DeSantis will have enticed another 50-60 million people to move to Florida, right? Viagra sales in Sumter County will be astronomical.

😉

😄 yeah but by then most of North Beach will likely have been evacuated and the buildings razed. no one will want to live along the water. zero sum game....

The only problem is, the rank and file still seem to be obsessed with Trump. Will he - can he - get out of the way? If the party can move on from him, DeSantis could easily be elected in 2024. But if Trump puts up a fight and poisons all the other wells, you could find yourselves losing in landslide fashion to any random liberal the Dems put up.

Banking on a trump indictment otherwise I agree with you 100 percent. That so many still support him after all of the lies and destructive bs is unfathomable to me.

Fleeting indications Trump might be losing his mojo even further. His candidate in the special election runofff for Texas representative (between two Republicans) lost, roughly 53-47. I believe there's another one coming up in Ohio that may provide more insight as to how influencial he really is. String a few of these losses together and maybe the GOP will grow the balls it needs to move away from him and try and position themselves as an actual political party instead of a personality cult.

I read that. And I just posted in response to the silliness of the Jan 6 hearings that when trump was impeached I was dismissive of same largely bc I knew he’d never be convicted but mostly bc I thought the impeachment was just punitive. Looking back I was wrong. I really wish he would have been convicted and I wonder how many conservatives assumed he’d fade quietly away and now secretly regret not dealing him the death blow. What you write is encouraging but damn he’s an albatross

Beginning with the Inauguration crowd size claim, dealing with Trump has been an exercise in having to imagine the unimaginable. For everyone, on all sides. And we're not done yet. Wait until the results of the Cyber Ninjas' fraudit are released. Doesn't matter what they are; either way, there will be tumult.

Trump is now threatening to primary any Republican who goes along with the bipartisan infrastructure bill that seems to be close to being agreed upon.

We keep hearing indictments are imminent but when. It’s presumably been five years since he left his businesses for public office. Crimes carry sols. Some of the allegations against him, whatever they are, have to be getting green

Bill passed with 67 votes. Heard that 6-7 of the 17 Pubs are up for reelection in '22. So there's at least that many who don't feel obligated to vote the Trump line. It's a small number, but another sign that Trump's influence may not be as strong as many think. The upcoming special election in Ohio should tell us more. Hopefully @Noodle and @Aloha Hoosier and @Ohio Guy can add their insights.

Keep spouting those media talking points.

The a**hole would rather have the country literally crumble than witness the enactment of bipartisan legislation that would benefit millions of Americans. Honest to God, just when you think he can't possibly go any lower, he manages to do so.

Thanks McCarthy, Stefanik and all the congressional Republicans who have enabled him, even after his clear defeat, the Big Lie, and the insurrection that he inspired. Trump continues to destroy a once great party, and he's doing a hell of a number on the country.

Part of my job involves connecting with legislators, so I attended some swanky backyard fundraiser last week for one of the GOP hopefuls in the race to replace Steve Stivers' seat. There are 11 Republicans running and they range from crazy MAGA types to people who are widely considered RINOs. From the tea leaves I'm reading - or being told about - no one really knows how that will shake out. The winner will likely get around 20% of the vote, but it'll still be fragmented and will have to cover a fairly wide chasm to gain support for people who didn't vote for them within their own party.

So the door is wide open for a Democrat?

I'm pretty sure this is a conventional party primary followed by a general. The question is whether or not Trump's chosen candidate gets the nod. Obviously @Ohio Guy would be the one to listen to.

So this thread appears to have gone completely to shit, and I can't handle most of it, but I'm just jumping in to say I think you are right to have the raging hard-on for DeSantis that you've been sporting for the past year. The guy could clearly be a very strong GOP candidate. He brings a lot of what made Trump popular, but carries very little of the baggage. On a national stage, I think he'd be quite popular.

The only problem is, the rank and file still seem to be obsessed with Trump. Will he - can he - get out of the way? If the party can move on from him, DeSantis could easily be elected in 2024. Thanks for the post. It’s refreshing to see someone from the left side of the isle actually say something positive about a Republican. I like Desantis.

I'm not implying I like him, of course. I just think he could be a formidable candidate if the party gets out of his way and doesn't self-sabotage because he's not Trump.

Speaking of unimaginable. Can you imagine 47 year political hack Joe Biden driving an 18 wheeler? Lol.

No way a Democrat wins that seat. Genghis Kahn in drag would win as long as he had an R next to his name.
This is accurate. The only question here is whether or not it's a fringe MAGA candidate or a more sensible GOP candidate that the MAGA crowd will probably hate. I think this is sort of an indictment on Trump's current political pull.

Ohio is so heavily gerrymandered in favor of Republicans that it'd be hard for Democrats to win most open seats. About a decade ago, they got rid of Dennis Kucinich by redrawing the lines of his otherwise safe district and he had to go against Marcy Kaptur in a primary.

I thought Dems were against rigging elections.

It's a funny, harmless fib. Like telling your cousin that her ugly baby is cute or assuring your wife that the too-tight dress does NOT make her look fat. Nobody gets hurt by it. Laugh and move on.

Was he lying to incite an insurrection?

I don't know, Cornpop.

But he was definitely lying about not knowing about Hunter's business while he was VP.

Why don't you sue him for it? Investigate it through the discovery process and get back to us with your findings.

Tell the truth about it.
