Everyone has access to the vaccine. We shouldn't be worried about cases. Hospitalizations for the vaccinated should be the metric we are looking at.

Some Florida counties, inlcuding mine (Palm Beach) are considering reintroducing mask mandates. A leadership vaccuum is at least partly responsible.

Pete’s a young gay guy whose politics appeal to old white guys and not the younger crowd one would expect.
I do. It's well known that AA males at a macro level aren't has hip with the gay thing as the rest of the country.
The police chief ordeal along with the death of Eric Logan by a white cop who turned his body camera off right before his supposed altercation in the middle of the primary didn't help at all.
Plus he's an unknown white, brainy Harvard academic nerd with zero credibility with the black community didn't help, especially with Biden running against him.
Make no mistake, there's a strategic reason why he's all over black led podcasts, constantly on Joy Reid's show (and other women's shows like the view and Ellen, that's his wheelhouse, suburban women) and is very quick to bring up the racial ramifications of our previous infrastructure programs....because he has to gain the trust of the black community to have any legitimate shot.
Some are speculating he'd need a Stacey Abrams cult hero on the ticket if he was running today.
We'll see how he manages his profile but that's the area he needs the most work on.
And yes, the gay thing doesn't help (it helped greatly as an unknown on a stage of 24 contenders but at the finish line it most likely hinders him). Hopefully it gets to the point where it doesn't hurt badly.
I'm not sure we're quite ready for a first gentleman as a country yet. We're getting there but I would have major worries that someone would take an assassination shot at him if he happened to win last year (he won Iowa and finished second in NH....but that's where he put most of his resources and didn't get the bounce. He was effectively dead in 2020 after So Carolina went overwhelmingly to Biden).

I think most of us “old white guys” could care less that Pete is gay. My only concern of Pete is that he’s a disguised uber liberal as Biden has turned out to be in his older years.
I think the gay issue is much larger with AAs.

My daughter has been visiting and she is a staunch progressive. She views Biden as "Trump lite" and is very frustrated by his rejection of progressive causes and policies.
Sounds like she lacks perspective.

Desantis went to yale undergrad harvard law. he runs a state that people are moving to into droves. it's passed NY and now is the third most populated state. probably bc he doesn't subscribe to the endless fear porn and actually weighs other policy considerations - like kids being educated. yes i think he's a pretty smart guy. if the crazies start implementing school masks things will get ugly

Zero state income tax and lack of Covid restrictions I'm sure drew in some of the people. Florida has always been warm and on the ocean.
homestead, no state income tax, pro business, covid response, look at the both the tech/financial and firms relocating there for those reasons

Likability (actually merely perception of likability) helped Bill, Reagan, Carter, Bush Jr., Obama, Ike, JFK and Trump (as examples) and hurt Hillary, Nixon, LBJ, Goldwater, Humphrey, Bernie and Dole (also as examples). Feel free to add others.
Likability (or lack) will hurt DeSantis more than I predict a degree from exalted Yale will help him. Does Yale even bother to give letter grades yet?
And, I referred to perception of likability because I've heard Carter only appeared likable but in person was not truly likable, especially if you had to work for him. Who really knows?
yeah i don't think desantis is particularly likable. his face isn't off the charts punchable but it's on the chart. but as i said he has presidential pedigree with the education/military combo and leads the third largest state in america that's having a banner year with people and businesses (tech/finance) relocating there. i'd take his chances over harris' 10/10 times. guys like myself who sat out the trump debacle would be first in line to vote for desantis over biden/harris.
In some school districts where discipline is a problem, it's a good thing that the other kids "can't fing hear the other kids."

Bottom line, every time I visit, it takes all my will not to just pull up stakes, buy a couple of MAGA hats and Trump/Pence 2020 flags, and move down there...especially now that my grandkid is only a few months from being born.
