I want to be believe the polls, but I'm refraining from getting even remotely excited.

That said, I think Biden keeping a relatively low profile is helping him in ways that it wouldn't if we weren't going through a pandemic. Letting Trump trip over himself would help any Democratic hopeful, IMO.

I do think the debates need to happen. If they cancel, it'll be too easy to seed doubt about Biden's mental state. It's not fair, but I think he needs to put those mental fitness questions to rest and the debate is probably the best uncontrolled place to do that. If he wins the first debate, all those questions about him go away, in my opinion.

If you look at the polls Trump is definitely closing the gap. I don't think Biden can just hide in his basement anymore. He needs to get out and start making speeches and doing interviews.

The polls were right in 2016. People just had/have no clue how to interpret them.
