The difference in priorities in nominations is striking. Thomas-Greenfield is an interesting choice at the U.N. and I like the idea of someone who has served in diplomacy on four continents as our representative there.

Besides, she can do more Socialist! damage in Senate.

no, Yellen did more "socialist" damage at the fed, to help the investor class, and only the investor class, than Warren or anyone else could ever do in the senate.

I just checked Tlaib but didn't find anything that qualifies her for a cabinet position. What am I missing?
A potential bad decision?
I don't think Biden will actually select her...more about optics and appeasing the progressives

Neera Tanden for OMB has the Pubs up in arms. I don't know anything about her policy chops, but she's been an outspoken, unapologetic Team Clinton talking head with a wicked Twitter presence. Saw where Cornyn is already gunning for her. Evidently being mean on Twitter is now a disqualifier.

Would Bernie vote for her?

She won't possibly get confirmed. It allows the GOP to vote for everyone else and still claim to be stopping the evil socialists. it allows Biden to tell progressives "we tried but the evil Republicans blocked us".

I'm hardly a fan, but it's no different than some of Trump's terrible picks. She's clearly intelligent, which is more than you can say about Rashida. I'm sure Pubs are mad because the tables have turned and Biden picked an extreme liberal.

Does the OMB really have much political power?

I was waiting for the GOP to hold mean things said on Twitter against the Biden administration. And all this time they told us that they didn’t see the tweet.

Would it be too tin foily to wonder if the Biden team didn't offer her up as a sacrificial lamb precisely for that purpose?

Shouldn't, but that didn't stop Trump from weaponizing it for political purposes.

Biden is from a different style. It's an older style, of Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson. 'Let's meet, let's talk, let's negotiate, let's have a deal.'
This will be welcome by McConnell but will cause big rifts with progressives in the Democratic Party.

Not Wonky enough to know this, so apologies in advance, but is Cocaine Mitch really a old school negotiator like Biden, McCain, Romney, Mitchell, etc.?

Biden and McConnell are both adults when it comes to negotiation. But in this era of weaponized viral rhetoric...it won't get far. Politicians seem to make decisions on viral wordings rather than logic

I bet dollars to donuts he thinks he is. In real life he's just a giant wall built from dildos, but he probably thinks he's some kind of political genius.

thats. It addressing my question, which wasn’t around his intellectual capacity or narcissistic personality. I’m genuinely asking if he is the type of guy who would even be willing to reach across the aisle, compromise and work collaboratively.

I think you have some typos in there, but I think I know where you're going, and the answer is...I don't know. I doubt it's a priority for him. But I think he'd be willing to do it if he thought it would help him. So who knows.

Whatever the cons have said, done or believed for the past four years, get ready for the opposite.

Yes, like that. Pretty soon we’ll hear about deficits. Maybe even late next month COVID will start to matter and suddenly every death will be unacceptable.

Ha. You are a little to the party. The GOP is now against deficits. Again.
Republicans ready to become deficit hawks again under a President Biden

I forget the Mitch quote, but basically he said, “You seem to be under the mistaken impression I give a shit about policy.” Mitch’s sole goal is power grabbing by political means. And therein lies his genius — he knows how to read the times and know how far he can push the bullshit limit. Such as with the SC, or saying their sole focus is defeating Obama, or blowing up the national debt under Trump to stimulate the economy.

His other genius is realizing he doesn’t need to give a shit about policy. He doesn’t need to compromise. He doesn’t need to cross the aisle. He doesn’t need to be a statesman. He doesn’t need to give a shit about the country. All he has to do is play the political game he plays. Thanks Kentucky.

Tanden: "Budgets are not abstractions. They are a reflection of our values".
Using progressive ideals to formulate budgets...is a disaster.
