Best Indiana HS players of the decade

Fun read, thanks!

Also a good demonstration of how far our recruiting fell during that time. We'd have taken most of those kids on the first 3 teams at IU, and probably recruited most, but didn't get nearly as many as I would have liked, or as I believe we would have in the past. One thing I'll commend Archie on is making recruiting the best in IN a priority. He's done that pretty well imo.

Maybe Archie should have started over with his own recruits. This year's upperclassmen are weak.

I have said that more than once, 1st year was going to suck anyway and should NOT have tried to just fill up spots with Crean's last class. I think only Al is left from that anyway and he's not worth what we could have otherwise gone after in year 2

The mighty leaper is also still on the team.

Smith is so frustrating. His overall 'production' has improved this year, but he racked up some nice numbers early against soft competition. There are long stretches of games where he just disappears.

The kid was born with the athletic abilities of a greek God, but just doesn't seem to have any piss & vinegar in his blood.

Imagine if AJ Moye has Smith’s body. Wow

*sigh* ...

Decade isn't over.
A new decade has begun. Unlike centuries and millennia, decades start on January 1 of years ending in 0 and end on December 31st of years ending in 9. It is now the twenty-twenties.

I guess if you wanted to call it the 203rd decade, then January 1, 2021 would be correct. But no one designates them as such so it's the twenties now.

Al, Smith, Davis, Green

I will be curious how effectively our 2020 recruits will replace Green, Davis, and later Durham and Smith over a two year span. I feel it will be a net gain in year 1.

I don't know. I think 2020 is not well-balanced. Seems like a lot of duplication of skills between the 3 recruits we have; especially when you factor in AF in the year before (and Damezi the year before that). I think this class still needs a PG (and one who can shoot) and a post and probably should have or could have had one of those at the expense of one of the current kids. What do we have: 1 more open spot? So, maybe some more changes yet to come?

Garcia would have obviously been huge. Big loss. The three recruits all seem like wings. I dont think any will have a major impact in year one so what you see is what you get for next year.

Another PG would be good. I would be happy to go into 2020 with RP and Franklin/Durham knowing Lander would be showing up in 2021. Not sure we will know that.

We need Galloway and Leal. If that is a duplication then I am happy to have it. I like what I have heard about them.

I'm not sure we will sign a big man in 2020

We'll see. If the duplication of skills is not deadeye knock down shooters, and I don't think either fits that bill, then we don't need both and Geronimo imo. Hope I'm dead(eye shooter) wrong.

And I would agree with your PG assessment, but the chatter around Lander isn't positive it seems.

Did I miss Smith getting booted or something?

We really need a post player. At this point, it’s very unlikely that TJD is going to stay 3 years. That would leave only Race Thompson for the 21-22 season.

Yep, as Bailey said, Garcia was huge, but we needed a backup plan. At this point, I guess it's wait for spring and hope an xfer or grad transfer fits the bill. Regardless, I still think we have too many wings, no bona-fide sharp shooter and also a need at PG. That's what makes me scratch my head about the makeup of the class. Of course, I'm the first to admit I didn't expect as much as Franklin has given us, so I'm prone to be wrong!

Watched the Bloomfield/Bloomington South basketball game and was very impressed with Leal. He had a lot of athletic moves to the bucket which included 3 or 4 dunks. He missed a couple of dunks as well. He did not shoot a lot from outside so I didn't get to see that part of his game. One thing that really impressed me is that he is a team player. He made good passes quickly to shooters who then knocked down the 3.
It was some IU nostalgia with Leal going to IU. Also Johnny Jaeger's little brother played in the game. There are two Bomba cousins who are I believe (could be wrong) grandsons of Dr. Bomba who was on staff during the Knight years. Then on the Bloomfield side you had the Oliphant kid who was the nephew of Jeff Oliphant who played at IU during Alford's years.

This morning I watched the Silver Creek/Lawrence Central game that was at New Castle. LC has two Davis kids. The elder one is going to Louisville, but does anyone have any info on the younger Davis? I thought he looked pretty good as a sophomore. Jacoby didn't do anything in that game. There is definitely a difference between 4a and 3a. Silver Creek got stomped. Yet Kaufman looked like he never gave up. I'm not sure how many points he ended up with but he was battling continually.
The commentators of the game said that D'Andre Davis, if he plays with passion and energy LC can't be beat in the state. Do any of you guys who follow Indy hoops agree with that assessment?
