First pitch is around 3:40 and IU is the "visiting team" in this game.

RHP Connor Foley is on the mound for IU and overall, he has an ERA of 3.81 in 56.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.22 with an OBA of .152. In conference play only, he had an ERA of 2.93 in 27.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.14 and an OBA of .138. I haven't seen or heard anything on Brenczewski and I don't know if it's a coach's decision, but he is out of the lineup today as the DH with Wiggins replacing him. The batting order is Taylor, Pyne and Mitchell at the top of the order, with Cerny, Tibbitts and Mathison in the middle of the order, and Oliver, Wiggins (DH), and Stadler at the bottom of the order.

RHP Gavin DeVooght is on the mound for OSU and overall, he has an ERA of 4.22 in 42.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.41 with an OBA of .241. In conference play only, he had an ERA of 5.79 in 28.1 IP and a WHIP of 1.50 with an OBA of .257.

It's 80 and mostly sunny with almost no chance of rain. It's windy with the wind out of the SSE at 14 mph and gusts to 23 mph, and the wind was blowing in during the Ill/Iowa game.

1st inning:

T1st:

Taylor grounded out to open the game. On a full count after fouling off balls, Pyne Kd looking for two outs.
Mitchell flied out to retire the side as IU went down in order. Fly balls today are going to be nothing but outs with a brisk wind blowing straight in.

B1st:

Foley got the leadoff hitter on a flyout. A groundout got the 2nd out. Foley got a K to end the inning as he put them down in order.

End of 1st: IU 0 OSU 0

T2nd:

It's the middle of the order up with Cerny leading off. Cerny was hit by a pitch.

Tibbitts reached on a four-pitch walk to put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs with Mathison up.

Mathison was hit by a pitch to load the bases without a hit and no outs, and Oliver up.

Oliver flied out to the warning track to bring in Cerny on a SAC fly, and runners on the Corners with one out and Wiggins up.

Wiggins hit a one-out, two-run double to give IU a 3-0 lead and it was the first hit of the game for IU.

Stadler reached on an infield hit with Wiggins taking 3rd.

A double by Taylor off the bottom of the wall scored Wiggins. Stadler took 3rd and was given the hold sign, but Taylor rounded 2nd and got caught in a rundown for the 2nd out.

Pyne doubled to score Stadler and that finally chased the OSU starter with IU up 5-0, and a runner at 2nd and two outs.

OSU brought in RHP Chase Herrell with an ERA of 4.78 in 37.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.62, and he faced Mitchell with two outs and Pyne at 2nd. A foul flyball to LF ended the inning.

B2nd:

Foley faced the middle of the order. A flyout to Taylor got the leadoff hitter. Another flyout got the 2nd out, and a K ended the inning with Foley putting them down in order again.

End of 2nd: IU 5 OSU 0

For the 2nd straight inning, the middle of the order was leading off with Cerny up.

Cerny walked on a full count with Tibbitts up. Tibbitts Kd swinging for the first out with Mathison up.

Mathison Kd swinging with Cerny still at 1st and two outs.

After a long battle at the plate, Oliver walked on a full count to put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs with Wiggins up.

Wiggins grounded out to retire the side.

B3rd:

Foley faced the bottom of the order. Foley, who has a tendency to throw a lot of pitches, has just 21 pitches over the first two innings.

As soon as I posted that, Foley walked the leadoff hitter on four pitches.

Foley then hit a batter and Foley has put the first two batters of the bottom of the order on with no outs.

Foley then walked another batter on a 3-1 count to load the bases without a hit and the top of the order up.

Foley then got a huge K for the first out and the bases loaded.

Ball hit back to Foley and Foley made a bad throw to Stadler at the plate which scored two runs on the error.

There were runners at 2nd and 3rd and one out. A grounder got the out at 1st with another run scored to make it 5-3 with a runner at 3rd and two outs.

A balk by Foley brought in the run from 3rd to make it 5-4 IU. OSU paid us back after we loaded the bases with no outs to open the 2nd without a hit. A flyout finally ended the inning and the Buckeyes plated four runs without a hit and all runs unearned.

End of 3rd: IU 5 OSU 4

It was the 9 thru 2 hitters up for IU. Stadler led off with a single and the top of the order up.

A FC got Stadler at 2nd with Taylor reaching at 1st, and Pyne up.

Pyne flied out with Taylor holding at 1st. Mitchell walked on a 3-2 count that was really close, to put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs with Cerny up.

Cerny popped out to 1B in foul territory to retire the side.

B4th:

Foley faced the 5 thru 7 hitters. After going 0-2 on the leadoff hitter, the hitter reached on a single up the middle for their first hit of the game. The runner at 1st stole 2nd and they would have had the runner if it was a good throw by Stadler.

Foley got a big K with the runner at 2nd and one out.

On a full count, Foley stepped off the mound for the 2nd time against the batter and the ump gave the batter 1st base on a walk. There were runners at 1st and 2nd and one out.

A base hit tied the game at 5-5 and runners at 1st and 2nd and one out.

Another single loaded the bases with one out. With the top of the order up, Foley got a K for the 2nd out and the bases still loaded.

A lineout to Oliver ended the inning and IU was fortunate to be tied with OSU. I have doubts that Foley will be out there for the 5th.

End of 4th: IU 5 OSU 5

It was the 5 thru 7 hitters up and OSU brought in their No. 1 reliever in RHP Blaine Wynk with an ERA of 2.97 in 36.1 IP and a WHIP of 1.13.

Tibbitts reached on an error by 2B. Mathison then singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs.

Another error by 2B on a grounder by Oliver, loaded the bases and no outs with Wiggins up. Errors have hurt both teams today.

A grounder to 2B got Oliver at 2nd although the ball was first bobbled with Tibibitts scoring to give IU a 6-5 lead and runners on the corners with one out. IU challenged the call at 2B on the bobble. The out at 2B was upheld.

Stadler was up with runners on the corners and one out.

On another grounder, Stadler out at 1st but the throw to 2nd for an attempted DP was off and Mathison scored an unearned run to make it 7-5 IU. With the top of the order up, Taylor grounded out to retire the side.

B5th:

IU brought in RHP Aydan Decker-Petty with an ERA of 5.13 in 33.1 IP and a WHIP of 1.38.

D-P faced the 3 thru 5 hitters and he got the leadoff hitter on a K and then got the next batter on a pop out to 1B. D-P then got another K to end the inning and he put them down in order which included two Ks.

End of 5th: IU 7 OSU 5

T6th:

It was the 2 thru 4 hitters up for IU with Pyne leading off. Pyne popped up to shallow CF for the first out.

Mitchell singled to put a man on with one out and the middle of the order up in Cerny.

Cerny Kd swinging for the 2nd out and Mitchell still at 1st and Tibbitts up.

Tibbitts doubled to score Mitchell from 1st to give IU an 8-5 lead with two outs and Mathison up with Tibbitts at 2nd. Mathison Kd swinging to retire the side.

B6th:

D-P faced the 6 thru 8 hitters. D-P walked the leadoff hitter on a 3-1 count. The top four batters in the OSU lineup are 0-12 so far with the 5 thru 9 batters doing all of the damage for the Buckeyes.

D-P got a FC at 2nd with the batter reaching 1st and one out. Another grounder got the batter with a runner at 2nd and two outs.

D-P then walked a batter on a full count and both runners are on with walks and two outs.

D-P got a K looking to end the inning with no damage done on the walks.

End of 6th: IU 8 OSU 5

It was the bottom of the order up with Oliver leading off. Oliver reached on a single with Wiggins up.

In a potential DP ball, Oliver was out at 2nd, but a bad throw to 1st allowed Wiggins to reach with one out.

A DP ball by Stadler ended a quick inning for IU.

B7th:

It's the 2 thru 4 batters up. D-P walked the leadoff hitter on a full count, and it was back-to-back innings that he has walked the leadoff hitter.

D-P got a flyout for the first out and the runner still at 1st. Another flyout got the 2nd out with the runner still at 1st.

For the 2nd straight inning D-P had put two on with walks as he walked another batter on a 3-1 count and runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs.

After having an 0-2 count on the next batter, he walked him to load the bases all on walks with two outs. OSU has had just three hits in game up to this point yet they were threatening to possibly tie the game or take the lead.

D-P got a big K swinging when he really needed it and he has stranded five walks over the last two innings.

End of 7th: IU 8 OSU 5

It was the top of the order up with Taylor leading off.

Taylor clubbed a homer to RF into the wind gusts blowing in to give IU a 9-5 lead.

Pyne reached on an error at SS to put a man on and no outs and Mitchell up.

Pyne was out on a FC with Mitchell beating out the throw at 1st and one out with Cerny up.

An RBI-double by Cerny scored Mitchell from 1st to make it 10-5 with one out.

Tibbitts was hit by a pitch to put runners at 1st and 2nd and out.

OSU had no one warming up in the bullpen and it looked like they were saving pitchers for an elimination game against Nebraska.

Mathison singled to score Cerny and runners on the corners with one out.

Oliver hit a SAC fly to score Tibbitts with two outs and a runner at 1st, and OSU finally went to the bullpen.

With Wiggins up, OSU went with LHP Hunter Shaw with an ERA of 11.52 in 27.1 IP and a WHIP of 2.05.

Brenczewski came in to pinch hit for Wiggins and he walked on a full count to put runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs with Stadler up.

Stadler fouled out to RF to retire the side as IU got four runs in the inning.

B8th:

D-P faced the 8 thru 1 hitters and OSU still had just three hits on the game up to this point.

For the 3rd straight inning, D-P walked the leadoff batter and it was on a full count and IU went to the bullpen and brought in RHP Brayden Risedorph with an ERA of 7.66 in 44.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.57.

Risedorph walked the first batter he saw on a full count and OSU had two on with both on walks, and walks have been the only base runners that OSU has had in the late innings.

Risedorph walked another batter on a full count and the bases were loaded all on walks with no outs.
IU pitching had walked 11 batters in the game up to this point.

OSU's first hit for what seems like forever scored a run to make it 12-6 with the bases still loaded and no outs.

An infield grounder scored another run with the first out at 1st and runners on 2nd and 3rd.

A grounder to Pyne got the runner at home for the 2nd.

Another single loaded the bases with two outs.

Risedorph got a K to finally end the inning.

End of 8th: IU 12 OSU 7

It was the top of the order up for IU with Taylor leading off.

Taylor was hit by a pitch to lead off. Pyne single to shallow CF on a ball that landed in no man's land.

Mitchell flied out to CF with Tayor taking 3rd and runners on the corners with one out.

Cerny reached on a FC with Pyne out at 2nd. A throwing error to 1B allowed Cerny to reach 2nd with two outs. Taylor scored on the play to make it 13-7 IU.

Tibbitts walked to put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs.

Mathison singled to bring in Cerny to make it 14-7 IU and runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs.

With Oliver up, OSU went to the bullpen and brought in RHP Logan Jones with an ERA of 21.00 in 7.0 IP and a WHIP of 2.89. Oliver Kd to retire the side.

B9th:

Risedorph faced the bottom of the order in closing it out and IU led the Buckeyes by a touchdown late in the 4th qtr.

Risedorph Kd the leadoff batter. Risedorph then walked a batter on a full count and IU pitching had tied the record for the most walks given up in a B1G tournament game at 12 walks so far.

Another walk, IU's 13th walk of the game, on a full count put two runners on, both on walks, and one out.

A K got the 2nd out and then a single loaded the bases. A near GS homer was just foul down the RF line.

A K finally ended a sloppy game pitching and fielding wise, but it was a big win.

IU gets a day off and awaits the winner of the Nebraska/OSU elimination game.

Final: IU 14 OSU 7

With games still to be played, IU moved up to 53rd in the RPI ranking just after the OSU win. IU gets another day off between games while waiting for the winner of the Nebraska/OSU elimination game tomorrow.

Aesthetically, this was an ugly game from both the pitching and fielding standpoint by both teams, but fortunately IU was hitting the ball well and they were able to keep a fairly big to big separation from the Buckeyes from the middle innings on despite the pitching giving up 13 walks. Only three of the Buckeyes seven runs were earned in the game.

IU had outhit OSU, 14 to 6, and the Buckeyes had just three hits going into the 8th inning. IU was 14 for 40 for a team average of .350, while OSU was 6 for 34 for an average of .176. All of OSU's hits were singles. IU had four batters with multiple hits. Everyone in IU's starting batting order had at least one hit with Brenczewski coming in as a pinch hitter and drawing a walk.

Mathison - 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs.

Taylor - 2 for 5 with a double and homer and 2 RBIs.

Stadler - 2 for 5 with an RBI.

Pyne - 2 for 6 with a double and an RBI.

Wiggins - 1 for 4 with a double and 3 RBIs.

Oliver - 1 for 3 and 2 RBIs.

Cerny - 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs and he scored 3 runs. Tibbitts was also 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI and he scored 3 runs. Mitchell had a hit and with his speed he scored twice from 1st base on hits.

IU had one error which led to 4 unearned runs in the 3rd. OSU had four errors on the game which led to 4 unearned runs by IU.

The pitching had all kinds of control issues with the 13 walks given up, but they allowed only three earned runs on the game. Foley's throwing error to Stadler on an attempted force play at the plate in the 3rd led to 4 unearned runs. Of the 6 walks issued by Decker-Petty in his 3 innings pitched, he stranded 5 walks on base. Risedorph had 4 walks in his two innings pitched.

Foley - 4.0 IP, 3 hits with 1 earned run and 4 unearned runs, 5 Ks, 3 BBs, 1 balk, and 1 hit batter.

Decker-Petty - 3.0 IP, no hits and 1 earned run, 4 Ks, and 6 BBs,

Risedorph - 2.0 IP, 3 hits and 1 earned run, 4 Ks, 4 BBs, and 1 WP.

What Pitcher gets the nod on Saturday:
Phillips, Kraft, Keyster or Rybarczyk?
82
I would guess Phillips or Kraft. Rybarczyk had his chances with some Sunday starts but he struggled in those games and I don't see them using him during the tournament unless a game gets out of hand one way or the other. That's my opinion so it's probably going to end up being wrong.

I was about to pull my hair out with Risedorph on the mound the last two innings. It was fortunate our hitting was awesome.
It wasn't the best of games by the pitching staff, but they limited the number of runs plated after the disastrous 3rd inning with the 4 unearned runs. They did limit the number of hits to just six singles, so there is that. With a small number of games still being played around the country, IU moved up an additional two spots in the RPI to 51 as I post this.

Added: Indiana State won today out of the loser's bracket in the MVC to stay alive. The MVC is considered a one-bid conference this season and if ISU doesn't win the MVC tourney, a bubble team is going to be knocked out of the Field of 64. If the Sycamores stick with what has been their weekend rotation, Luke Hayden should be on the mound for their next tournament game.

Keep on winning and there will be no doubts! I saw where one prediction had IU a 3 seed in Knoxville. I think we make the post season tournament as long as PSU, OSU or MeatChicken don't steal the B1G Auto-bid. Illinois and Nebraska are considered a lock. I don't see the committee selecting more than 3 B1G teams. If IU loses 2 in a row and Illinois or Nebraska win the tournament, the B1G might only have 2 participants pending how many Auto-bid stealers there are.
Go Hoosiers!

D1Baseball had IU as the first out and that was before the OSU game, while Baseball America has IU in as at least a bubble team, and they have IU as a 3-seed in the Knoxville Regional.

It's too close of a call for IU, so like you said, win the tournament and eliminate any doubt.

Baseball America has moved IU in their projections and now have them going to the Lexington Regional as an auto bid 3-seed. They also project West Virginia in that regional which if it did happen, three of four teams would return to that regional that were in that regional last season.

I would need a break from the Lexington Regional after everything that went down last season with the accommodation fiasco and also all of the sniping at the end of the IU/UK regional championship game. UK also announced after the regional that they would agree to host IU in future games, but would not go back to Bloomington for any return game.

We’ll need to beat Nebraska Saturday Morning … we should have fresher pitching having two days off to Nebraska’s none.

They are playing UIC right now and in the top of the 7th, the Sycamores are up 4-0. Luke Hayden has pitched a shutout so far while giving up just three hits, and this will probably be his last inning. We need ISU to win the MVC out of the loser's bracket so there won't be bid stealer in the MVC.

Added: Hayden walked the leadoff hitter in the 7th on four pitches and they went to the bullpen.

Illinois just got eliminated. Aarrgghh! I was hoping they would put Michigan out of their misery. Now we still have two B1G teams that could steal a bid away from us. Darn it. It was almost like the Illini wanted an early exit to rest their players for the Big Show!

The Sycamores moved on with a win over UIC and Luke Hayden is now 7-2 with an ERA of 3.39. He pitched six innings of shutout ball while giving up just 3 hits and he had 9 Ks with 4 BBs.
