Auburn is #4 in hoops. Wtf

You can have an off-night offensively but there’s no reason to be so pathetic defensively. I didn’t see more than half the game but what I saw set defensive teaching back 50 years or so. Everybody’s worse off for experiencing that crap. It will make a great instruction tape for those willing to use it as an example of piss-poor design and execution and desire.

“This is not how you play defense, gentlemen. If you think it is, go play s*****.”
7 turnovers in the first 8 minutes.
Point guard paints his fingernails so we look good losing…that’s what is important.

As a good portion of us said, “what we had with Knight is never coming back”

But also the college game is long gone.

Yes. Yes, they do have too much talent to get blown out by a mediocre (at best) Louisville. Piss poor, lazy coaching is cancerous.
I wish your team luck in fighting the cancer that has infiltrated “college basketball”….If Painter can continue the attempt at player development from Freshman thru Senior then he is worthy of our respect

Effort should always be there. Easy to say. Guess you can’t demand it anymore. Make a bad play, look at the ref with a pained expression, throw up your hands and don’t get back to play defense. Ass, meet bench.

Substitutions are pre-determined

Define talent?
I think we always over-value our talent. Many say that Mgbako and Reneau will be in the NBA. I don’t see it. Too slow and not enough natural athleticism. I may be wrong, but I thought Ballo and Rice were First-Team All-PAC-12. If so, that’s an indictment of that league’s talent.

Bryson Tucker looks to be the only natural basketball player. And he’ll be in the portal at year’s end.

Our crimson-tinted glasses always cloud our vision. We’ll be lucky to be a .500 team this year.

I was advocating hiring Bruce Pearl when they hired Mike Davis full time. I saw his teams here in Evansville, dealt with him personally on a couple of events. The man is a bundle of energy, enthusiasm, optimism, etc. And his teams play hard.

But I knew even then that it would never happen. He's not a cultural fit -- and the culture of IU basketball is more sacrosanct to the decision-makers than winning is. This doesn't make sense to me at all. If your culture is an obstacle to success, you shouldn't be protecting it -- you should be actively changing it. And I firmly believe that this is the single biggest problem with IU basketball.

Changing coaches is fine. But sometimes a situation needs more than that.
The late Mike Leach would have e been the turnaround football coach....but once again, IU was and is a Woke institution; Leach would have pissed off some early DEI hires, and would have left on his own initiative.

Rice and MgBako have the ability. The team is full of mercenaries. Leal is the only one there for the Uni….Woody doesn’t care for him.

Effort is lacking in the whole program. What I thought Woody would fix by being hired he has made infinitely worse

How would you know? You haven't seen that at Purdue in your lifetime, have you?

ETA: I forgot about your football team.

A personal 'what if' for me is if Jason Collier and Luke Recker could have stuck around and played the way Knight wanted them to play. Michigan State won the national title and IU had beaten 3 of the 4 Final Four in what would have been Collier's senior year/Recker's junior year.

Collier was all ACC his senior year and nearly averaged a double double for GT (without looking it up, 17 points, nearly 10 rebounds a game). We all know what Recker did at Iowa. I think 2000 could have been the year IU hung banner number 6, had it all shaken out right.
YES!

IU should have hired Pearl. Imagine the excitement of Pearl and Cignetti

I'm pretty sure "Go Get Pearl" has been a theme on these forums for about forever.
He would crawl on his hands and knees from Alabama to Indiana to coach IU. But the powers that be think we’re way too good for Pearl or Chris Beard. Both would have IU back in multiple Final Fours.

You’re not allowed to call Woodson lazy even though it’s 100% accurate.

I’ll add that I hope all of the student athletes on our team are making six figures in nil earnings. They deserve it!!! Before nil they were getting taken advantage so badly. Maybe they need more money

That's the problem... They just aren't getting paid enough to work hard out there...

Maybe Quinn can find a way to come up with more funding...

I don't think passing the hat is going to gain much traction this time around...

Ah the good old days of actually taking pride in representing the University and leaving every ounce of effort on the floor... Glad I got to see it. Evidently those days are long gone...

Could you imagine giving money to nil. I would give every last cent to snarlcakes to be the last man standing at the World Series of poker before id give a single dime to nil.

No kid playing a sport sacrificed to get there. They just did what they liked to do more than anything else. They’ve put in about 1 percent of the sacrifice and pain of a student studying something hard and devoting time to it. Playing a sport is the equivalent of playing video games. Just doing shit you like. Asking to be paid to do it at an amateur level not very well is just stupid

Only in basketball. If you want to see true student athletes out there competing for the name on the front of the jersey, who aren't paid the big bucks, because quite frankly nobody gives a shit about them or their sport . . .

watch the IU soccer team!

Brad, have a hard time calling those who are benefitting from NIL and portal transfers being called student athletes.

Didn't go to IU but spent a memorable day with an IU graduate who invited me to spend a day at the Bloomington campus. In addition to visiting his fraternity along with beer and pizza, he took me to an athletic facility upon our arrival at the campus. Loved the facility which consisted of several full sized basketball courts and a running track which circled the courts. Ran the track and participated in a shirts vs, skins basketball game. The participants in this pick-up game come closer to what I would call student athletes.

They are pros now. They should be treated as such. Like the blues. Booed mercilessly

You're right; they aren't. It's one of the reasons I really don't care as much about collegiate athletics as I did in the past.

And despite my shot at soccer, I think those guys probably still are student athletes and so should probably be followed more. Too bad IU doesn't have a hockey team.
