Woodson made this roster why the hell he didn't recruit guards is beyond anybody. Could you imagine Ware kicking out to guys who can shoot. Galloway is not a shooter and when Johnson gets back our defense will be better but still have no shooting. Hopefully Mgbako stays McNeely can shoot and we add portal guys that can shoot with Reneau we should be finally be a capable team that can compete with the big boys.
He did recruit guards. He just didn’t get any in the portal.
Gabe Cupps is not a shooter. Everybody knew Newton was hurt why we added him makes no sense another Creek.
Everything I brought this up I was told we didn't need another guard that cupps and gunn were going to kill it this year. Still waiting for gunnt kill it.
He could of gotten one in the portal there were hundreds. If schools like minnesota can get portal guards so can Woodson. He I guess just targeted ones he could not get.
Not true. He was recovering from his injury…played in some games late in his HS season. No one knew how bad his injuries were. And if he gets healthy, everyone will be very glad we recruited him.
I agree overall. Hes had enough time to reshape a roster based more on good perimeter players. But it’s not factual to say he didn’t recruit guards.
He just hasn’t seen the need to force a more guard focused approach. Or he’s been too weak to risk some harder times for the better longer term approach.
Hes went all in on talented bigger guys. Hes focused on playing through them. And it’s been inconsistent at best.
Cupps was supposed to be an understudy, not a starter. But yeah, too many guards that can't or won't shoot. Galloway, Gunn, Johnson, Mgbako, Leal. They just go under every ball screen and we don't do anything about it.
Not enough fight, and no one left on the bench to push them to play harder. Once Pearl got his team playing hard, we disappeared.

Our guards are terrible. X needs to get healthy. How in the f#ck do we manage to recruit every guard that can’t shoot.
People on this board didn't want Caleb Love. They didn't want another guard who would take minutes from Trey. Ware has been soft vs. UConn and Auburn. We didn't match their intensity.

Next year is season four and I don't see a guy who can get up to a sweet sixteen. He is better than ancie but I see a 2nd round ncaa ceiling type of coach. 20 or 21 wins a year type of thing.
Yep I got trashed for mentioning him over trey or gunn. Love is doing very well this year.
A lot of IU fans are clueless. X annoys the sh#t out of me, but he’s still our best guard and on ball defender.
Oh cmon Trey is All-Big on defense. Jimmy Dykes said they just abused Trey off the dribble all day.
I think the problem is that he is our best guard. He might be the third or fourth best guard on a final four team. Instead, he's our best, and he's a head case with spotty decision making and a funky and inconsistent jumper.
We've also had two arrests in two years, and those guys have missed exactly 0 minutes for it.
But, it's one game. Not sure I want to watch the Kansas game though.
Guard depth is an issue. I was concerned coming into the year….having to rely on 30+ minutes with a player coming off of a broken foot, and Trey has also been nicked up in the past. How many times in the offseason did someone say we would be in a tough spot if X went down???? As a coach you need to be prepared.
I keep hearing about shooting (and for good reason), but we could sure use a veteran backup guard capable of being a primary ball handler and defender.
