As Recruiting Heats Up, IU Releases this Video

If Trace and Race come back and they get a couple of portal players like Broome and a superior shooting guard, plus get Reaneau ,they have a shot to go far. I think X will be dismissed. Kopp should transfer or call it quits. Look for Geronimo and Bates to vastly improve. Not sure on Galloway or Leal but I think they remain Hoosiers at least this next season.

X ain’t getting dismissed.

Galloway is a coach's kid. Off season dedication will make it damned hard keeping him off the floor. Bates with hard work can be a tremendous SG for iu.

Seriously, why the hell do so many people think X will get dismissed for speeding and switching seats? Sure it was dumb but literally everyone on this board has been caught speeding and most of us have driven over 100mph on public streets but didn't get caught.

I don't think anyone is saying he should be dismissed for speeding.
Many question his questionable decisions and his commitment to the program, especially considering that he was one of the five suspended for the NU game.
Are there other issues that we have no knowledge of?
If he is dismissed then I think I would be safe in saying that the speeding wasn't the entire issue but simply the straw that broke the camel's back.

I think the big thing is that everyone saying that X should be or is going to be dismissed, are assuming that there are a lot of other issues, but with no real evidence of any

The drama and negativity is more exciting for those folks. Weird mindset, but it’s real.

Didn’t he have a court date today? Thought it was Friday. Maybe next Friday?

Preliminary hearing was waived. Onto next step.

i'm guessing some sort of conditional discharge pending 6 months of defensive driving courses and clean living.

meanwhile he'll only be able to drive to and fro school/ball and that's it, if at all.

and i don't think he's off the team.

I would be very surprised if the felony charge sticks, it will pled down or disappear. In this day of extreme racial sensitivity, an African-American IU basketball star first time offender, three a.m. non-existent traffic, no drugs or alcohol guarantees that the prosecutor figures no upside in coming down hard. What/who would reallybe served? How would the prosecutor look if he did come down hard? Highly doubtful. Likely it will be pled down to to a speeding charge and drivers safety course. This will be done when a sufficient length of time has passed so the case disappears from the current notoriety it currently has.

My guess is that X will most definitely NOT be dismissed. Woodson will have a "fatherly" chat and internal penalty for X. X continues to have poor decision making skills and perhaps, finally, this will help him grow up and change. I saw improvement with his on court decision making at the end of the season and as the season progressed he became somewhat less vocal in whining to refs about calls and seemed less volatile - good progress there. Growing up a bit and learning from his mistakes may help him to become a true leader, at least I hope so.

Maybe a NIL deal with Jimmy John's. You know, Freaky Fast!

I suspected the reporting is inaccurate, so I did a little research. It turns out I was wrong. That procedure is governed by local rules. Marion County doesn't allow for waivers of initial on felonies, but Monroe County does.

My bad. Carry on.
Thanks for your insight (and diligence).

What does waiving the hearing imply? I would assume that the default plea is "Not guilty" until he says otherwise?

Correct.

When you waive your initial hearing in Indiana, you are basically telling the Court you don't need a hearing for the Judge to explain what your charges are, what the penalty range is, and what your rights are.

The Court enters a not guilty plea, which the Defendant can change down the road if an agreement is reached.

This is how you win. Can’t change overnight. We have been going in the wrong direction for a long time. Now we are going in the right direction.
Hype video. Dime a dozen, limited impact. But hey, it's the off season. Let's have a thread about it.

I am not a fan at all of police acting differently toward a high profile athlete if that is what you implied (and I am not saying you did).

We all read the eyewitness accounts from the McDonalds incident in west Lafayette this past season where is was reported that the police's tone toward the incident changed once they learned who the perp was. The police had to then defend themselves from the allegations including the fact that they changed the log entry from "battery" to "argument". Cops need to play it straight despite any pressure from the university.

Agree and most of the felony charge transpired on private property. Now, if i broke into an apt on private property that would still be a felony but a stop sign is not the same.

I don't know the law well enough to know if X could lose his license for 60-90 days but I think that sends a message.
