Are you sure you really want DeSantis?

King Ron removes four more local officeholders:

Why do you believe he should not have done this? Why does this make him authoritarian, which is where you are headed? A State grand jury recommended this and it sounds like the Florida Constitution and statutes give him that power:

“DeSantis said the decision is in response to findings of a statewide grand jury that was tasked with investigating the Broward school district’s response to the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting that left 17 students and staff dead and 17 injured. The grand jury report, completed in April and released last Friday, cited the “incompetent management” of the board members and former Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie over the cost overruns of a $1 billion school-safety program.”

Because Desantis is a Pub anything he does must be bad

The talking heads have already primed the pump for that narrative.
I actually think he has a ton of potential and is obviously smart.

But not sure why he spends so much time focusing on CRT, wokeness, and other dog whistle issues. Seems to have a little Napoleon complex that could use some work.

He is way smarter than Trump on every level.

He’s actually a much more “classic” Republican than anyone since McCain

Get ready.

If Desantis is the nominee, he’ll be worse than Trump in the eyes of liberals.

It will seem that way because social media and the way its algorithms work. But most I talk to welcome Desantis as the GOP candidate. Do liberals like him? No. But at least he isnt a f---ing nutbag cult leader.

It's all moot though. Trump is running and is going to eat Desantis alive. Ronny has zero chance. You will hate him more than any liberal ever could in about 6 months.

Do you believe if you oppose CRT or wokeness, you are a racist?

That’s what “dog whistle” refers to (that’s what some have said on here)?

I’d imagine the reason he spends so much time on those issues is that he has polling showing him most people don’t like them. He might also be doing it because he genuinely believed they are poor policies.

What about the age old conservative argument that government closest to the problem is best suited to solve the problem ? in this case, ousting and replacing the school board members would be a local matter.

Also wondering about the Florida Constitution giving so much power to the governor. How, why, and when did this occur ? Heck, if DeSantis or any governor has this much power who can stop them from exercising it. This is more about laws and ideology than DeSantis in my opinion.

I think most on all political sides have no idea what CRT actually is. The term was co opted by pretty much everyone. And yes some people who are either willfully racist or just ignorant see their version of CRT as something that will destroy their way. So when guys like Desantis spend alot of time opposing it, those people react positively.

He's throwing out red meat, keeping his base riled up. It's campaign season.

When Trump was doing it in 2016, people convinced themselves he'd become Presidential and surround himself with the best people and would govern sanely. Wishful thinking. With DeSantis, we know exactly how he will govern.

Since Nixon, what Republican Presidential candidate hasn't been branded as evil?
Was thinking John McCain.

On second thought, he took heat from his own party. Oh well, nobody or party is perfect.

That's because McCain didn't have a chance. No need to demonize him when he votes your way half the time anyway.

I am confident the Kentucky Governor has the same power.

Do you think he seriously thinks Disney is grooming kids? He’s playing to his audience.

It's DeSantis in the sense that he seems to be appropriating powers that the FL Constitution does not give him. It's no accident that courts have had mixed reviews of most of his Legislation. But since there hasn't been a Democratic Gov in FL since Lawton Chiles died in office and his successor served for a year (1999), the reality is that at least some of the judges ruling against DeSantis were appointed by GOP Governors...

The attempt to replace Warren seems to be destined to follow the same path as the anti-woke act, don't say gay bill and Reedy Creek. Some Republican appointed judges are going to rule it unconstitutional, and then his personal appointment stacked SC will uphold it. IIRC, he has appointed 4 of the 7 SC justices...

Within the past couple days Judge Mark Walker (Obama appointee) has ruled that the employment provisions of the anti-woke act are unconstitutional (free speech). He was only dealing with the scope of the lawsuit which was filed by various employers and the ACLU, so the education portion likely isn't affected. DeSantis will likely appeal, but the judge's rebuke seems pretty scathing...

"In the popular television series Stranger Things, the 'upside down' describes a parallel dimension containing a distorted version of our world. Recently, Florida has seemed like a First Amendment upside down."

Judge Walker went on to clarify...

"Normally, the First Amendment bars the state from burdening speech, while private actors may burden speech freely. But in Florida, the First Amendment apparently bars private actors from burdening speech, while the state may burden speech freely."

Now I don't know how the hierarchy of the Florida court system works, so I don't know where the Warren law suit was filed and who will rule on it. But I'm inclined to believe that at some point along the way some legal authority at least early on is going to side with Warren and rule that DeSantis overstepped his authority.

No idea how things will eventually sort out, but it seems pretty obvious at some point Warren is going to be reinstated, even if it's only temporary. I'm wondering how that process will affect the election atmosphere, and if DeSantis will attempt to keep the issue out of the public's view until after the Nov election...

He didn't overstep his authority for the millionth time. He is granted the authority to do what he did in the Florida constitution.
