I am sure you guys have been waiting for my "research" on the origins of the ChinaVirus conspiracy theory.
After hours of search, with frequent interrupts, here is what I have been able to find so far.
Before we move on, let me ask:
Is it more important to find out where it was originated than to spend time researching together how to battle it? I know our president does, but he is a special kind of human being, if that. Would you feel better if you know that it originated in Podunk Junction, ND, instead of China? Would human being served better if we find that it started in Bloomington, Ind?
Or, is it better to spend time and research to look for ways to battle together and to find ways of avoiding such tragedy in the future?
So, the widely held theory, along with the loud drumbeat of Pres. Trump, that China is the culprit and that she did so deliberately with malicious intent, has gained popularity among the usual China-bashers. Is that a victory? What have we gained by doing that? More China haters? Yes, we have achieved that. Stronger anti-Chinese sentiments among the usuals? Yes, you have achieved that too, but then we would get it from them without even trying.
Does it help America now or will in the future to work with the world? Is the world "us vs them"? You be the judge!
Does it really help to fight this terrible disease or is it another stumbling block we must face? I am more afraid of worldwide disharmony created by this kind of jingoism than the threat the virus poses. I would like to think that Trump started this shenanigans to help American standing in the world. Has it? I feel he is just making the US as the laughing stock in the eyes of the world. I may live in a different part of the US (well, I live in Seattle after all
), but as far as I know, the majority of the Seattlites consider this kind of jingoistic attitude does nothing but hurting the American image in the eyes of the world.
Or, would it have been be better if our president offered sincere sympathy for the tragedy and offered assistance in helping China and the world, including The US, recover from its "tragedy?"
Having said, that this is what I found from Guardian.
1)
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the US does not have certainty about the origin of the coronavirus pandemic, despite claiming over the weekend there was "enormous evidence" the virus originated in a Chinese lab.
I am surprised that he has finally conceded, or has he? Nonetheless, his hesitancy/backtracking gives us some idea.
2) Assessments circulated among US intelligence-sharing allies have posited that it is
"highly unlikely" the virus originated in a lab. Trump has insisted that it did. My point is that, even if it was, it was by accident, and accidents do happen. Yes, such accidents can be catastrophic and can be tragic. The guy in charge would certainly "pay" for the mistake. But condemning the whole nation for that? Come on! Even jinoism should have limits!
3) Multiple US experts, including Anthony Fauci, have cast doubt on the theory that the virus originated in a lab. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Mark Milley, said Monday that evidence the virus began in a lab is "inconclusive." Condemning a nation based on an inconclusive accusation is not something a president of the most powerful nation in the world should engage in.
4) An April 30 statement by the US intelligence community said it "concurs with the wide scientific consensus that the COVID-19 virus was not man-made or genetically modified,"
5) Intelligence assessments circulated among the US's closest allies indicate that it is "highly unlikely" the coronavirus outbreak is the result of a laboratory accident,
according to two Western officials who said a shared intelligence assessment points to origins in a Chinese market.
6)The Trump administration has publicly suggested that they would seek accountability for the spread of the deadly pandemic. Privately, they are
drawing up plans to punish Beijing on multiple fronts.
Sources inside the administration told CNN they are looking into using options like sanctions, canceling US debt obligations and drawing up new trade policies as forms of retribution.
Cancelling debt obligations? Has it ever been done? Is he trying to run the US government like a Trump Casino? And some of you guys agree with that?
I am speechless!
