Another Fortune 500 Company Bolts Chicagoland…

Texas has the most Fortune 500 companies
Everyone's Gone To Moon (or Texas)

Streets full of people
All alone
Roads full of houses
Never home
Church full of singing
Out of tune
Everyone's gone to the moon

Eyes full of sorrow
Never wet
Hands full of money
All in debt
Sun coming out in
The middle of June
Everyone's gone to the moon

I want to check out Austin and explore Texas a bit. One of my best friends lives in Houston. I've flown down to see him a few times. Horrible place.

Well, it's been 95 degrees and humid in Indy the last three days. At least that pocket of hell doesn't have winter.

Austin was the one awesome spot in TX, until every douchebag on earth figured it out. Always loved the music scene, but made my last visit there.

Austin has become the de facto spillover spot for the unoriginal and talentless.

It’s not the next great Tech hub or the live music capital of the world, it’s the same 3 heroin attics strumming their shitty music in bars and a bunch of Zoomer and millennial tech sales reps.

only place in Texas I've spent significant time is San Antonio and Big Bend Natl park... The park is absolutely a gem (just have to drive a thousand miles from anywhere to get there).... but was singularly unimpressed with San Antone....

As fun as it would be to pile on Chicago….. Deerfield isn’t even Cook county, it’s Lake County. So if you want to say that the state government hasn’t fostered a friendly business environment, fine, but this move likely has nothing to do with Chicago’s ills.

Houston is a hell hole.

Austin used to be a fun place - good music and good BBQ. And the bridge where the bats come out at sunset and fly down the Red River - a must see.

The rest of Texas, except for some of the Eastern part, is just sand or concrete. There just ain't much. It's like anywhere else - the people there are used to it and like it. But if you're from the Midwest, you'll be yearning for grass and trees not long after you move.

I'm not saying there aren't nice places. San Antonio downtown is really nice. It's definitely worth exploring, but I wouldn't move there on a bet.

That’s not the Red River.

But some of the best bass fishing and deer hunting there is.

Just a miserable sprawling place
Houston's best resource is its people. I lived there for a few years and found them very nice (nicer than midwesterners, I thought).

Also, when I was there in the late 90s, 75% of receptionists at a downtown office had breast implants. The ones who did not were just naturally endowed or gorgeous or both. I think that is why all these corporations are moving there.

They were probably immigrants. I think in some of these South American countries implants are part of insurance coverage lol

Brazil I believe. WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO
Used to play an indoor league that was mixed male and female. Colombian woman was amazing. Think she played high level D1.

Drop dead gorgeous.

I ran into another guy and almost knocked him out b/c i was staring at her assets.

Austin’s glory days are LONG gone. No infrastructure to support the growth and the most over priced real estate in the US. For what, an average food scene and decent music?

Last time we visited there were more tent communities than SF or Chicago. Plus, those dumb ass scooters laying all over the city. I don’t get it… at all.

Lastly, the people suck. Many transplants at this point I realize.

Their new slogan is “don’t move here” and my response is no problem douche.

Most overrated city I’ve ever visited. And the Tex-Mex? Just give me the Mex. I don’t need dumbed down Mexican food.

These southern girls seem to try harder; to a point, then they give up and are as big as the county fair.
They do try harder. And care more (about looking hot). They can't hide inside a sweatshirt, winter coat, or sweater for 6 months of the year.

No shit? Is it like Nashville? That's what I picture
I like Nashville way better. Better music scene for a casual visitor, and better people. Austin has a heavy wannabe California thing going on that I can’t put my finger on. It’s got “scene” vibey thing if you know what I mean. Combine that with what was once a legit southern city and you have something I’m not interested in. Nashville just way more laid back. It still feels southern, which is what I want when I visit the south.

There is f-loads of money in Austin, and if you like expensive golf course clientele mashed with a zillion twenty somethings trying to figure things out, you may like it. The twenty somethings will give you punk rock service throughout your stay.

If you go to dinner, rest assured you will see some orange southern belle trophy wife complaining loudly about everything in sight.

Any charm it had is long gone. A couple we know is paying 7K a month for a nice two bedroom. (lol) In Texas

Wow really interesting. Yeah 7k a month for that is absurd If I'm not looking at a mountain, a beach, or a big city. Summers have to be brutal.

As an aside two of my buddies just bought condos in Portugal. I know you were looking

We talked to a lawyer who does deals through Marriott developments. You get free reign to be in the EU as soon as you invest I think 275K in one of their developments. (3% return over 5 years). Not sure if you can work there.

Think it’s 400K if you buy a property outright in Lisbon, Porto, or the coast. (don’t quote me on the details as it’s been while) You can become a citizen after 5 years after talking the test in Portuguese.

We we’re just talking this past weekend about resuming and maybe pulling the trigger.
