Yesterday was the first game I've taken my 7 year old son to. I waited this long simply because I didn't think he would be interested in sitting through 4 quarters of a game when he was younger. I thought Rutgers was the time/game to break him in, so away we went.
I scored 3 tickets in the North parking lots for a total of 70 bucks...what other BIG game can you do that?? Good start to the game day experience after a crappy drive up because I didn't listen to people here.
Anyway, we sat on the sun drenched East side, high up and dead nuts on the 50 yard line. I loved the seats for the price. The defense came out and forced a quick punt that pinned us deep on our own 10. Sudfeld came out firing the ball and we marched down field with precision and pace. We looked ready, I'll give Wilson that.
Fast forward to halftime and it was disappointing to not have the lead after we outplayed them. But fear not, we destroyed them in the 3rd quarter and held a blowout lead going into the fourth. It was getting cold and the sun was slipping past the West stands, my son was ready and frankly
My wife and I were too. We headed for the truck in the parking lot that I paid 20 dollars to park in...
My son had a ball and asked me when we could do this again. I told him we would absolutely be back for Iowa in several weeks. I told him that a 5-2 start was great and this team would make someone an attractive bowl candidate. We stopped at Long John Silvers in Bedford and hurried home.
I couldn't wait to get here and brag about our day, the blowout victory over Rutgers and the new IU football fan I had created. I literally almost fell into the depths of my commode when I read the news of the 4th quarter. It was embarrassing to tell my son the truth, they had blown the lead...and now probably won't go to the Iowa game. What a day and how things can change on a dime, that's all.
