My understanding of the CP issue is that IU not the NCAA requires all Juco transfers to take Finite Math before being qualified. I am not clear if it can be a pass/fail type of class or if they must obtain a solid C to be considered passing as the Business School requires.

Many have their opinion about this issue. I for one do not want academic standards lowered. However, I think common sense should prevail also instead of the one size fits all government categorization.

This course is a very difficult course for a beginning student that brings up terrible memories for many alumni. This is a course that several alumni have needed to drop and retake in their educational career. To judge a young man on one class like this to determine if he will be successful in college is .....ridiculous. As I said many alumni who would be considered successful have struggled in this course and retaken it. It is also WELL known that many kids retake Finite at other IU schools like IUPUI and Indiana South East over the summer because you are allowed to use a calculator and it isn't used as a tool to weed out students. Thus it is easier. I know several kids that have done this.

I ask the Administration why they ignore this? We know the Admin is aware of it. Why do you look to penalize a young man who is from out of state and may not have the means to take a course at a satellite campus? What I'm getting at is this "standard" is already flawed/tainted but swept under the rug (actually, if I remember right, IU allows Finite grades to transfer only from other IU campuses. I guess as long as the student keeps the money within IU we are willing to look the other way when it comes to standards). Don't penalize a young man simply because you can. Use some common sense and take measure of other tools and traits he brings to the table.

The administration is being judged right now and has been for several years. You constantly are asking the alumni for donations. Many are looking at your actions from year to year to determine if you warrant these funds. If the kid passed the class, let him make something out of his life and get out of his way.

This God complex you portray is not becoming. And yes, the longer you wait to pass judgement, the worst it makes you look.
