Indiana Elites' 17U team took an unblemished record and #2 ranking into the 3SSB Tournament Championship. The first two games played were "Showcase," or "Exhibition" games that do not impact the tournament, nor count against their official record. That's a good thing too, because Indiana Elite has taken the first 2 losses of their AAU season. The first game yesterday to Phenom United out of Ohio 70-61 and then this morning IE lost 78-57 to New World 3SSB from the fertile hoops area of DC/VA/MA.
Braylon Mullins once again led Indiana Elite in scoring with 20 points on a pretty good shooting day. Overall Mullins was 8/ FG, 4/8 3FG, 3 reb, 2 Asst, 2 blk, 0 turnovers. Trent Sisley was solid, but not spectacular. The Montverde transfer had 9 points on 4/7 FG, 1/4 3FG, with 2 rebs. Malachi Moreno had a double-double game, but it wasn't enough to slow New World. Moreno was 5/7 FG, 3/5 FT, 10 reb (6 off), 1 block, but had 7 turnovers.
The team from Indiana only saw Malachi Moreno (3/5) and Mark Zachary (1/1) get to the charity stripe, while their opponents were 17/19 on free throws. That includes 6' 0" guard Aiden Argabright hitting 12 of 12 on freebies and 6/12 FG, 5 asst for 25 points. Grant Polk, a 6'-7" SF for New World led all scorers with 26 points on 8/12 FG, with ALL 8 of his made shots coming from behind the arc (8/11 3FG)! As a team New World shot 9/18 on 3FG 50%. That will always be tough to beat.
The tournament starts at 9:45 AM tomorrow for Indiana Elite. Hopefully they can get things on track, or it will be a short trip. They open play at 9:45 am with updates.
