Nebraska is a good defensive team that's been playing shitty Defense the last few weeks.
A year ago, with virtually the same personnel, they lead the Big Ten in 3pt FG pct. Defense. Going into this season's Big Ten league schedule, Nebraska was 4th Nationally in that stat. Hell, they were among the top 10 in a lot of defensive metrics.
Now even bad 3 point shooting teams or bad shooters are hitting from deep vs. Nebraska.
But defense on the perimeter hasn't been their only issue, they've suddenly become atrocious in transition defense. Nebraska's biggest weakness going into the season was always going to be defending talented bigs and rebounding. The Huskers have plenty of length and are very athletic, but they don't have a true 5, and their commitment to defending the perimeter leads to a lot of missed defensive rebounds.
The Huskers are better offensively now than at any time in the Miles tenure, but its not like their offensive improvement has lead to lax defense. Bottom line is they are NOT playing well on that side of the floor.
If there is a silver lining its that they've won 19 straight at home, including 25 of their last 26 games. 8 of their final 13 league games will be in Lincoln. And 3 of their final 5 road games will be vs. Rutgers, Illinois, and Penn State.
But if I'm an Hoosier fan, I'm glad I'm playing Nebraska right now. Until the Huskers can prove they have their defensive groove back, everyone Big Ten team should want to play them outside of Lincoln.
