Indiana practiced today instead of having Monday be its day off, coach Kevin Wilson said.

Thursday likely will be IU's day off this week, Wilson said.

“We challenged them, we need better prep earlier in the week,” IU coach Kevin Wilson said.

... Indiana leads the Big Ten in total offense. Michigan leads the Big Ten in total defense.

... Wilson noted several key former players have been around the program this fall. Former tight end Ted Bolser is on campus doing an internship, Stephen Houston (now playing in Canada) has been around, as has Shane Wynn.

... Wilson said he really wants this senior group to experience a bowl game for all they've put into the program.

"To me, a lot of kids have put in a significant amount of energy, effort, time ... The energy to build it here, it takes a great deal of energy. Selfishly, you want those guys to get victories," Wilson said.

.. IU defensive coordinator Brian Knoor said he is “under the impression” linebacker T.J. Simmons will be able to play.

Simmons was ejected in the first half following a targeting penalty call.

... Indiana's failure to get stops on third-and-long situations was a major factor in Saturday's loss to No. 10 Iowa.

“It was those three third-and-9 plus that led to touchdowns and eventually got us,” Knoor said, noting many other statistics were similar.

Knoor also said IU feels it needs to create turnovers on defense.

... A couple notes on Michigan's defense:

This is from the Michigan Rivals site:

"On the surface, Michigan is an average red-zone defense, ranking 44th nationally in allowing opponents to convert 81.3 percent of their chances.

"But the Wolverines are actually superb in the red zone, demonstrated once again in Saturday's win over Rutgers.

"Two big statistics stand out when looking at U-M's red-zone numbers. First, the Maize and Blue have allowed an NCAA-low 16 opportunities inside their 20-yard line.

"One could scoff at that tally, arguing that Michigan simply allows scoring plays to occur from 21 yards or further, but the Wolverines lead the country in total TDs surrendered (12), with just six coming on plays greater than 20 yards.

"Only Mississippi State has allowed fewer touchdowns outside 20 yards (four), while Florida shares second place with Michigan, ceding six also."
