7 yr / 70 million - No

Talked to Danny at the MGM as he was watching a tourney and I was gambling on it. He gave me the time of day and was real nice for 10-15 seconds. Then I showed him my IU shirt, and asked about if he would ever let Brad come home. Vibe totally he changed. He looked me dead in the eye and said "Brad will never coach at IU, never." That was the end of the conversation.
You should have said and Brad won't win you a title either........................

Vogel's success is riding the coattails of LeBron and Anthony Davis: you aren't going to have that roster in Orlando or Sacramento, and there is no guarantee you'll ever have that type of roster. Stevens is looking more like PJ Carlesimo than Doc Rivers.

Like the last 8 years, the Celtics aren't getting out of the Eastern Conference this year.
That has nothing to do with his window of opportunity. Who in their right mind would have thought Frank Vogel was going to get hired by the Lakers a year removed from a stint in which he went 54-110? Brad Stevens will be the hottest commodity on the NBA market once he's available.

And when that happens bet you dollars to donuts he takes a **** on the Pacers too.

Celtics job is arguably the best job in the NBA. If you can't get it done there, it is kind of like Archie failing at IU. I don't doubt another NBA team would hire him, but it is going to be somewhere like Orlando or Sacramento. If he craps out there, that may be all she wrote for Brad's NBA head coaching career.

It won't be at all. Danny Ainge has been a disgrace as a general manager. Sat on a plethora of draft picks and didn't make any moves while the plate was hot. They're a big man away from being an immediate contender.

Won't argue with that, but I don't think Brad has been much, if any, better. Celtics have some talent, but not NBA Finals talent. Either you have LeBron or Jordan or you don't: as a Pacers' fan, this has been hammered home time after time.

There are two ways to look at this.

1) I am encouraged that IU is willing to throw out this much money.
2) How bad is it, that you over double one's salary and they turn you down.

# 1 makes me warm & fuzzy, #2 not so much.
I’m just happy IU was willing to step up to the plate. Not everyone is motivated by money. Especially money you’ll probably never spend.

When my kids were young you couldn’t have paid me enough to move them out of school and across the country. Especially for money I didn’t need or would never spend. Some fans are just so selfish they forget these guys have lives and families too.

So how is that Stevens fault? He's not the GM or the one calling the shots. I personally think Stevens could have any job in the NBA he wants within the next 5 years.

Stevens is charge of running the team. Sure, college coaches have more responsibility since they assemble the roster and coach. But, Brad still has responsibilities as a coach. If you are arguing Brad does nothing as a coach, then every NBA team should get rid of their coaches because, according to you, they don't do anything.

If I'm running an NBA team, I would certainly wonder why Stevens didn't do more at arguably the best job in the NBA over 9 years. I don't doubt an Orlando or Sacramento would hire him: if he craps out there, he may be done as an NBA head coach.

Why would LA hire a coach who went 54-110? It's because each situation is different. There isn't an organization in the NBA who doesn't realize Stevens can coach. He's been the ECF three out of the last 4 years.

You think Stevens took a job in Boston and agreed that he’d have absolutely no input or say in the composition of the team he was to coach? You're delusional if you believe this.

Did I say he absolutely has "no input or say in the composition of the team he was to coach" or did I say he wasn't the GM or the one calling the shots? You're delusional if you think anybody but Danny Ainge has final say in roster moves and management.

And you’re delusional, as I said, to believe that Stevens accepted and performed his job without considerable input into those decisions. Thats simply not the case. However, if you’re insistent, on which players did Ainge act (either in bringing them in or not) that lacked Stevens’ full support?

I'm talking about the Celtics sitting on a plethora of first round draft picks they've seemingly had almost the entire duration of Stevens career in Boston that they have failed to package for a bonafide NBA star to pair with Jayson Tatum. That and letting Kyrie Irving walk. Again, you're delusional if you think Brad Stevens has final say in this regard.

So, where did Stevens push back on any of what you describe? Even one instance where he pushed back. Why aren’t you able to provide an answer, beyond what is obviously the truth? If you weren’t delusional about how these things work you would come to the simple, direct and accurate conclusion.

What does that have anything to do with what I said? Ainge has done a miserable job of putting together an elite level roster given the amount of draft picks and cap room the Celtics have enjoyed during most of Stevens tenure. It's irrelevant to the fact that Brad Stevens has "some" pull in roster management and strategy. It's literally Ainge's job.

Suggesting it’s irrelevant is part of your delusion. Stevens has and will continue to be a large part of the composition of the team. That you don’t believe or understand that is a demonstration of your ignorance here. If you could provide even one instance where Stevens pushed back, you would. That you can’t says everything.

Lol. The Celtics not being able to construct a championship roster is an indictment on the front office, not the coach. There's ZERO way you can spin it any other way.

Which is why you keep denying any role for Stevens or even one instance where he pushed back on Ainge. This is reminiscent of your “industry standard” argument that was naively off track and totally out of touch with how things actually work.

Never once did I say Brad Stevens "never" had a role in roster construction. Not once. You're making shit up, again. However, the lack of creating a championship caliber roster falls on....duh duh da the General Manager. It's literally his job.

I said at the end of the day Brad Stevens isn't the GM nor the one calling the shots, which are both factually true. Good riddance you're a douche bag.

It's going to be hard to find ANY example where a Coach publicly disagrees with the GM/team's pick.. it's one of those things settled in private and you have to present a "team selection" and united front. If they Coach comes out and said, this was a bad pick.... someone's probably getting fired. I know of a case with the Hornets where the Coach wanted a different player than the one selected, but that only came out after he was already gone. Hornets picked Malik Monk and the Coach, Steve Clifford, wanted Donovan Mitchell. Who was right? Clifford is in Orlando now... see how that goes?

He’s a dumbass looking for an argument.

Then why won’t you say where Stevens pushed back? He’s a part of the decision making process, whether you can understand that or not.

I was just trying to point out how it actually works, rather than you’re unrealistic and inaccurate version.

You didn’t try and point out anything. I never said Brad Stevens didn’t have any input on roster construction, rather Boston front office has done an inept job constructing a championship caliber roster. I know the difference. You know the difference. Everyone reading this knows the difference. You’re just here for an argument so that some acknowledges you’re existence on here. It’s what you get off too.

You assigned all responsibility for the Celtics’ roster to Ainge, and that’s simply not accurate. Your meandering attempt to straddle the fence doesn’t make your depiction any more accurate, just as it didn’t when you talked about college basketball “industry standards”.

CWCID This is spot on and often forgotten by fans.

I had a conversation with HIO7 about this situation and he told me the forum rules have changed and pretty much you have to post porn ot dox somebody to get banned. His hands are tied more than usual. This is why Birnk is the longest running version of ordy...longer than IUDanapoint or Kern County even.
That shouldn't prevent the deleting of individual posts that are nothing more that ti-for-tat, back and forth.

I never...ever denied I typed that. Prove it. This is another of your lies many many about me. In fact I corrected myself in the original post as you can see and later explained the error...now have for a second and final time. This is so pathetic of you.

Go fight with somebody else ordy...1,961

Just put him on ignore and keep him there. I've done this with every incarnation of Ord just as soon as I recognize his new username. I wish everybody here would do the same, it makes the board a much better place not seeing his self-serving nonsense. We all know he's going to trash every thread and he will never, ever, ever settle for not having the last word.

If you're unwilling to do that, you are part of the problem. There is nothing more frustrating than opening a thread thinking you're going to find substantive discussion or new information and find it's just another pissing match between the two of you with you keeping a scorecard. Don't give him the satisfaction of a response and maybe he will ultimately lose interest. Be the bigger person because you know he's pathological. He can't give it up. He's addicted to confrontation like it's meth.

Most of what you post here makes me want to kick you in the balls, but you are dead right about this. Brad Stevens is an honorable and honest guy. The fact that he even engaged in discussions with Dolson and team about the IU job was a courtesy that confirms his affinity for IU. It wasn't a case of him "leading us on" or toying with the fans for his own ego. We asked him to listen, he did, and he said he wasn't interested. He was serious about how much he hated recruiting - I heard him say it with my own ears in a private conversation. He is already a rich man, well set for the rest of his life, and not motivated by either more money or the ego boost of being the highest paid coach. He may choose to someday return to coaching college basketball, but if he does (and that's a huge if), it won't be because the "right school" - i.e. Duke or some other "non IU" school - came calling. It will be because he misses the game at that level or has grown tired of the NBA. That day has not come yet and may never - and that is why he said "no".

And BTW, he would have been worth every penny. He is a phenomenal basketball coach. The fact that some entitled posters here turned vicious because of their butt-hurt at being rejected doesn't change that in the slightest.

He has the best young tandem in NBA , Brown went for 40 and next night Tatum for 44 last week . He isnt being fired in Boston anytime soon and is happy there.
