1. IU made 15 3's last night and honestly I can't remember any that were of the "late shot clock just throw up something" variety. They were just getting open looks in the flow of the offense and knocking them down. That matters because it's much more repeatable than Yogi just draining a bunch of step backs or Blackmon hitting 30 footers with a hand in his face.
2. We might not have actually dominated the glass, but it sure felt like it. Maybe 2-3 layups for MD off of offensive rebounds, but in looking at the roster on paper that's a heck of a performance. One positive about your guards being primary rebounders is that it allows you to push the tempo pretty easily.
3. Stan is lost out there right now. He still gives good effort, but on the offensive end he is trying TOO hard. It's like every time he goes in the game he is desperately trying to show he should get more time. Last year in flashes we saw I thought he was going to be that 4-year East Coast guard that teams like Pitt, Nova, and CUse have had for years. Tough, good defender, improve over time, etc. Starting to wonder if he's not on borrowed time here if he doesn't get his head right. He can be a great asset if he is focused on being a defense and energy guy and letting his offense come to him, not trying to score every time he touches it.
4. One play in particular that stood out to me last night was about halfway through the 2nd half, IU was up by 8 or so, and Maryland tried to mix it up and go with a 1-3-1 to confuse IU. Yogi called it out and got us set, RJ calmly controlled the ball while under pressure, then hit Yogi who snapped it to Troy in the short corner (perfect spot against a 1-3-1) who one-touched the pass back to a wide open RJ at the top of the key who drained the 3. It was just so poised and crisp for a young team. They knew exactly how to attack the zone, had prepared for it, and executed perfectly. Beautiful basketball.
5. Collin Hartman, what a game. I hope that dude got some love from the co-eds at Kilroys last night.
