again missed the chance to get a margin

had more games yesterday than TBL yet he gained a game on me thanks in part to that nice Clemson win at VaTech

looks like I have the fewest # of teams left playing, so my remaining squads need to kick butt this week in their tourneys for me to hang on

note on regular season totals

by my rough calculations, I have had eight tourney wins, so my final regular season wins is 106

TBL has five wins in the tourneys, so he actually ended up with more regular season wins with his 107

I count only three tourney wins for CJ so he would be at 104. He is still very much in this though the fact that Marist did not make it at least to their conference tourney final was a definite blow

My first place is misleading. I have just had my teams start tourney play earlier. Plus Seton Hall doesn't even get to play in the Big East tourney. Two straight years choosing wrong between Seton Hall and St. John's. The lesson is--- if torn, choose the older team

I had no momentum from 4 on down the last few weeks

I had the best top 3 rounds of the draft, but didn't get nearly enough help from the bottom 7. Except Mia-O as a 5th rounder was decent.

But all these teams came away light enough on wins to keep me from contention:

4. Dayton...Ended up with 8 wins...Thought I'd get 9 about midway thru the season. They hurt me a lot.

6. SMU...Ended up with 3 wins...Thought I'd get 6 at the halfway point. Man, did they kill me!

7. Boise...Ended up with 8 wins...Thought I'd get 10 at the midway point. Relatively high Sagarin rating, but never clutched out the close games except 1 against woeful SJ St.

8. Wi-Mil...Ended up with 6 wins...Thought I'd get 7 at the halfway mark. They fizzled and weren't worth a damn the 2nd half.

9. Nw St...Ended up with 10 wins...Thought I'd get 11 or 12, midway.

10. S.Car...Ended up with 4 wins...Thought I'd get 5, halfway.

So that's 8 or 9 wins short of what I was expecting at the midway point. None of those teams exceeded my expectations, and they all fell short.

Looking at that now, that still wouldn't be enough to make me competitive but I'd have a shot at 3rd.

It's a shame about Marist

No, not just for CJ but for us in our office pools as well. Since I followed the smaller conferences better this year (thanks to the at-larges) I had them penciled in as a first-round tourney upset contender. I bet I wasn't alone on that. But it's always hard to beat a decent team 3 times in a year so Siena was probably due.

Santa Clara, Wright and G.Mason are the only spoilers left..

...from the mid-majors. Although I'm not really sure if Gonzaga gets in if Santa Clara beats them.

But if Wright and G.Mason win, it'll definitely take bids away from the majors.

Don't forget all of CUSA

With the teams that conference lost they are most certainly a mid-major conference now, and like the WCC they just happen to have 1 major team in it. But if Memphis were to lose in the CUSAT then it would take away another at-large bid.

CUSA is a major only in their mind.

I agree that they should be considered a mid-major, but I don't think they participated in the Bracket Buster, while better leagues like MVC, WAC and Colonial did.

WAC is another league that could spoil if someone other than Nevada wins it. I don't think NM St would get at-large and they appear to be 2nd best.
