2022 IU Football Recruiting Thread

Biggest area of need from my view is definitely along DT(2 at least?) & hopefully another great DE from Indiana! Probably another safety or 2. That could take IU to about 18. Could see them stopping at 20 given it is a strong class and think in today's new portal world, calculus may be "need to leave 3-5 spots for transfer portal opportunities."
Agreed seems like we have a priority to fill several spots along the DL.

He’s an Ohio state lean but IU is a very close second. He loves the guys committed to IU. Especially the McCullough boys. He knows a lot of kids going to IU. From all accounts he’s really torn.
Seems like it from what I've seen over here. Neither would shock me. Nothing against iu, but if I was a DE or DB or WR, I'd want to go to OSU. Basically guaranteed to be a high pick. Recruiting is weird. I thought Strickland was between Purdue and iu. Curry would be a good get for iu.

This seems to be a selling point for o$u and other highly ranked schools and it always get my goat. If you can play at the pro level, the scouts will find you. Walter Payton played for Jackson State U.
I agree 100% actually. Unfortunately, doesn't seem to help Purdue and iu. And Purdue has a top 10 caliber DE on their roster.

At osu, there is also the chance of great players being stuck on bench behind slightly greater players.
I don’t know. They rotate a lot. A lot more than IU and PU does. To say they are stuck on the bench is not all true. Why do you think teams like OSU are so fresh in the 4th quarter? It’s because they have 3-4 guys who are almost indistinguishable from one another. The starter may be just a hair better but the guy behind him is ready. This is almost more so across the lines.

I read somewhere that osu was recruiting 8 guys on the dl that are higher rated than curry. Not sure how their past 3 or 4 classes looked on the dl, but cracking the rotation is less of a given.

Yea, the rotating dl will likely get him on the field

They aren’t going after 8. It’s 4 and looking like 2 are trending elsewhere. They’ve honed in on Jones and Curry. They really want Curry because of the territory. They like guys in their back yard. They think he’s a 5 star. Most think he would be higher if he played in the south. They don’t know how/where to rank him because it’s not like Indiana has produced many like him.

I watched Curry's junior highlight video yesterday to see if he's as good as advertised. Considering it's a 15 minute highlight video, I have to imagine that's a hard "yes," considering 15 minutes of DL highlights is probably close to every snap he played in a HS season.

So are you saying Karlaftis won't be a 1st round pick just b/c he is at PU instead of o$u? I don't buy it.
No no no. I'm saying Purdue has a potential top 10 pick at DL, but the top ones will still go to OSU because they can get drafted from there. Which goes against what you said and I agree with of talent is talent, regardless of where it's at. It will be found.

Confusing desire to win a championship with desire to play in nfl.

You go to osu, alabama etc to win championship and/or stroke your ego.

You go to a school that you can see the field and showcase your talent to get to the nfl. Fit with the system/personnel is more important than program prestige.

They may rotate him in but for him to expect a legit shot at significant PT with those two guys ahead of him (and with the guys they are currently recruiting "over" him in this class and the next) he is (in my opinion) allowing his competitive nature and his confidence to lure him into an untenable situation...

If he came here (in my opinion) he'd most likely start a full year (or more) sooner and have a quite a bit more live crunch time game tape to show the league scouts...

He may very well go to "the" Ohio State but (in my opinion) the smart move would be to come to INDIANA... Over there he's just another good player, over here he has a legit shot at becoming a legend and helping make History...

OK, I get what you're saying but I agree with IU_Hickory, players go to O$U, Ala, etc. to play for a nat'l championship and the draft will take care of itself.

Rivals & Peegs both have offer lists. This list is intended to be a condensed version of guys I feel IU has a legit shot at.

Again, I know only what I've read on-line---no personal knowledge. The comments about who 'leads', initially, are all from the 247 site. IU offers of Indiana players ranked by 247 & Rivals are noted as such.

I'd welcome comments about additions and deletions. Also, errors.

So here goes: (130 as of 7/13/21)

Interesting unofficial(?) visit to IU recently from Quinton Conley of KC, MO. Rivals has him as a 6'6" 228 lbs TE, #10 player in MO, rated a 5.7. 247 likes him a little more (#424 nationally) and lists him as a 6'5" 190 lbs WR. 247 shows UK leading.

The coaching over there isn’t any better than the coaching at Indiana. Period.

Uh, yes I was.. Isn’t he a DE (not a DT) correct?
I think the word on him is that he's whatever he wants to be. From a size perspective, he's certainly not going to be 300+ lb NT. More likely a DE or playing a 3 technique DT.

I don’t necessarily believe that it is what is being taught at OSU as much as it is the players. The Bosa boys or Chase young would have been high picks no matter where they went. Karlaftis chose Purdue how much higher do you think he would be if he went osu? I am not down playing Larry Johnson but could coach those guys to be great.

Elite players aren’t afraid of competition, Most don’t care about who is being recruited behind them. The blueboods stack 5 star on top of 5 star.

I agree, but with the transfer portal open, I bet there will be a lot of talent available each year.

Pre portal look at all the QB talent that moved around. Burrows out at OSU. Fields in from UGA. Eason out of UGA to Washington. Hunter Johnson from Clemson to Northwestern. The list goes on and on.

You should have stopped at Eason.

He'll have to compete wherever he ends up.

If he heads to your place (o$U) he'll triple that competition. That's not a smart move if his goal is to get to the league...

We all remember how you jokers jerked Hale around... How did his pro career work out...?

I don’t know. They rotate a lot. A lot more than IU and PU does. To say they are stuck on the bench is not all true. Why do you think teams like OSU are so fresh in the 4th quarter? It’s because they have 3-4 guys who are almost indistinguishable from one another. The starter may be just a hair better but the guy behind him is ready. This is almost more so across the lines.
I don’t think pay enough attention to how many guys IU rotates on the d line. It is widely noted that IU plays a lot of defensive players. Unfortunately it seems like they play a lot of o linemen too which is not necessarily a great thing.
