Unvaccinated child in West Tx. Prepare for a lot more of these preventable diseases to be in the news in coming years.

It is now, but for a long time it was the moonbats on the left.
Anti Vaxxers started on the left. Hippie dippie suburban mom types and guys with man buns. Then us non-moonbats on the left started mercilessly making fun on them. They got disenfranchised. Trump happened. Covid happened. Bingo Bango Bingo. Now life long ultra lefties like RFK Jr are "Republicans". They are yours now. You're welcome.

Unfortunately this will affect kids on both aisles. I guess more kids will have to die for parents to see the value of this vaccine.

Yep. When my kids were born in 2005 and 2007, it was a far left thing for sure. It sort of got co-opted by 'don't trust the government/deep state' types down the road.
Exactly right. I remember this when my daughter was going through elementary school in Hawaii. Lots of liberal anti-vaxxers there.

Yes. This is an issue that seems more prevalent on the far right but also permeates the far left. And there is no amount of scientific evidence that can undo the damage done by a dumbass actress

I think you forget or ignore all of the Somalis and others who refuse to be vaccinated. We've had numerous outbreaks in MN, including Meales recently. Comes around every couple of years now.

I think, like chemtrails and GMO foods, anti-vax is a good example of how the political spectrum sort of curves into a circle, so the really crazy people on either end are actually closer to each other than they are to the mainstreams.

He made a true statement.
Yes but in 2000 we had declared it eradicated. So somewhere we screwed up.

Then he went on to say the hospitalizations were not serious, just quarantine. The state health commissioner said that was wrong, Texas does not quarantine people in a hospital. Which makes sense, a hospital is an awfully expensive quarantine.

The entire Americas claimed measles was eradicated in the early 2000s. We've started seeing outbreaks of measles and mumps in central and south America post-covid too. Mumps cases were over 3k in Brazil and Argentina a few years ago, maybe Mexico also.

CDC suggests there have always been outbreaks in the US and it's due to unvaccinated travelers.

There was a push to have a subset of adults vaccinated a few years ago. Born after ‘57 and vaccinated before ‘68.

My wife who is a physician says that patients attitudes toward her have changed over the years. It’s certainly not uncommon for patients to come in with questions about their health and that’s a healthy part of the doctor/patient relationship. She says what has changed is the number of patients that trust what they read on the internet vs her medical education. Many are choosing to not follow her recommendations. It’s as if they come in with their minds already made up. Basically they’re trusting a 30 second google search over her years of training and continued academic research.

You don’t know the depths of that patients research, so don’t build straw men.

I’m sure your wife is an excellent MD, but doctors in general need to be evaluated on a case by case basis. Look at WhyisIUBB. That guy is clearly hanging by a thread. He’s an MD. I’ll take Google and Twitter thank you very much before I let that psychopath have input on my health. Same can be said for OutsideShooter re: vaccines. Clearly an unstable person, you wouldn’t trust him in any other facet of life, why your health?

“Doing your own research” is a new term for something that used to be known as reading.

Doing your own research also leads to "the earth is flat", "moon landings were faked", and the war that was Jade Helm.

Look there are absolutely some patients that are more well read than others, but the “trend” is many are coming in with a single printed off article or what they heard on Facebook. I’m just telling you the attitude toward doctors has changed with the advent of the internet and it’s not always positive.

And of course there’s some doctors that either make mistakes or aren’t as well read. But we shouldn’t start generalizing that your average doctors education should be trumped by a quick google search.

And yes, doing your own research is important, but part of my point here is patients are coming in with a predetermined decision and not listening to their doctors. It’s as if they want to show off to their doctors, “look how smart I am”. You’re wrong.

In what other facet of life do we encourage people not to do their own research?

“I’m in the market for a new car”

“Don’t look into it! Trust the salesman, he’s the expert”

If you take your car in and say the timing belt is broken because Google says the symptoms match and the mechanic checks and says it isn't, I suppose you order they put in a new one anyway?

Nothing like having 40 million Americans diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, another 30 million estimated undiagnosed hypochondriacs and 10 million with an illicit SUD all having Doctor Google at their fingertips 24/7. Couldn't pay me enough to work in the medical field.

Some doctors can be quite pushy. I have friends who had to get in shouting matches with their pediatrician because they were insisting on the covid shot for their 3 years old.

Umm, let’s not compare doctors to a car salesman. That’s extreme and an insult to someone that in some cases has spent 13 years of their life to take the best care of you and your loved ones. How long did the car salesman train to sell you the car that absolutely you can do your own research on.

Hanging by a thread? LOL

I realize im probably not going to change your mind on your opinions of doctors. I’m just reporting the trend my wife has seen over the years. And of course this is a small population of her patients. But when the crazies go online and people trust them over their doctor there’s a problem and I think you should at least acknowledge that. And if people should research their doctors advice, they should probably double the research they do on their internet sources.
