We had four “three and out“ possessions. First two in the first half. First 2 of the second half. That’s the first two out of the locker room twice. We forced Ahia State into 3 real ones.
Generally, we made ‘em work hard to score on us. We forced drives of 11 plays, 10, 11 and 14.
Defense was much improved over last year. Not enough blitzing yet. Capable of giving me more confidence about our possibles (Louisville, Maryland, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Illinois. Pee Ewe.)
Oh, I heard the UCLA coach Chip Kelly was complaining about not having many possessions (2 in the first quarter) due to the running clock after first downs. But we had 11 possessions which was only really about one short of average. They ended up with 11 too.
I hate when we waste a time out because we try and trick somebody into believing we’re gonna punt on fourth down and try and draw them off. We don’t trick anybody. I’d rather have the time out in a close game.
We showed “not enough” in the pass game. Few open receivers. Personnel or scheme? Gotta get better.
We fought in the run game.
We didn't quit. We didn't look outclassed. They didn’t look like a No. 3.
Indiana State couldn’t score at home against Eastern Illinois. Our next step is to show “domination” and much better execution on offense - open catchers and gash runs.
