2022 five-star forward Malik Reneau de-committed from Florida on Tuesday after Mike White left the Gators for the Georgia head coaching opening.
Indiana was involved with his recruitment the first go-around.
News came out today that former Florida assistant Erik Pastrana will follow White to UGA. Pastrana was the lead recruiter in Reneau's recruitment.
Checking in with a few people yesterday and a few notes came about it... just passing along and I don't think this will be a recruitment that ends asap but I think there are a clear 3-4 programs that are involved and that could be all that stays involved.
Miami (FL) will most likely be an option. He is from Miami originally and attends Montverde (FL) currently. He likes the state of Florida. Their Sweet 16 run this season is obviously big for the future of the program and should have a lot of open space next season on its roster.
Georgia should be a player as well with part of the coaching staff in place, including Pastrana who is a big piece to the puzzle here.
Indiana is going to be in play. It recruited him hard the first time and will do so the same now. Obviously with Montverde teammate Jalen Hood-Schifino coming next year to Indiana, that is a huge piece as well. His ability to recruit for Indiana in person is big. Indiana also has the space widely available in its front court next year -- or is expected to. Reneau is that ideal versatile forward that Mike Woodson and Indiana are going to try and attract.
I wouldn't expect Florida to be a huge player in this recruitment moving forward. Florida State could be involved again and should be a team to watch too with its ability to produce some talented wings/forwards over the last 3-5 years.
Like I said yesterday and above, there will probably be more teams to pop up, but this is a good group to look at. Also, don't expect a decision right now but it's a recruitment that won't be spread out a long time.
