A Bison Sideline Mascot

I'd just find the most realistic looking fake Bison head out there (or better..., contract with whoever makes that sort of thing to come up with two of them [a primary and a backup]...)

Have the head and horns be the focal point with long sleeves and long pants covering all else aside from the wrist and hand area... We' d have to come up with a couple of fake hooves to cover the hands and wrists...

Once again, stay far away from the clown look and lean towards realism... (Ped Pete is a great example of the ultra creepy "clown look" and what Not to do)...

Just a "Keep It Simple stupid" approach that could have things up and running rapidly and not have a great deal of upkeep and expenditure after the initial outlay for the two heads...

One key would be to find someone at least 6'2" with broad shoulders to wear the head...

The kids under 7 or 8 would love him...

My Avatar endorses this concept. 😎
He's willing to allow his image and likeness to be used as a prototype model if needed...

AI & Learning: Thoughts on ChatGPT, Copilot, etc?

This topic has probably been discussed here before but I'm just now starting to really pay attention to it, as well as use AI myself. Here are a few of my recent experiences...
  1. First, my wife is an online instructor for college classes, which typically require students to respond to a discussion prompt and reply to two other students' posts. She said close to 60-70% of the discussion is likely AI-generated and students are even feeding a student's initial post into a bot to produce a reply. But it's difficult to prove so there's no 100% certainty they are using AI, although it's obvious when the post doesn't address the prompt, includes specific words AI is known to use, or is totally off topic and makes no sense. Given that most of the students are putting in no effort and not actually meeting the objectives of the assignment, nearly half of the students are failing the class. This is stressing her out because she's big on academic integrity and hates that the students aren't learning anything.
  2. Second, one of my friends works with scholarship applications and they said students are starting to use AI-generated essays. These are obvious because they, again, don't address the prompt and/or appear to be written by someone from the 1900s, etc. But they can't 100% prove it was written by AI so their hands are tied in some cases.
  3. Third, I'm taking a grad course for a certification and I'm 99% sure my classmate is copy/pasting 95% of their posts from AI. Our professor has stressed he doesn't mind us using AI but not to copy and to cite if we use it. After a few weeks of my classmate's reliance on AI and putting in little effort, I'm pretty sure my professor got fed up and significantly docked their discussion score.
Overall, I think AI is a useful tool and I use it for work and as a resource for some of my school work. There are also more advanced things you can do with video, audio, and images. What are your thoughts and experiences?

If you're not familiar with AI, I asked ChatGPT "In 50 words, should I trust the market?" and this is what it generated.

Trusting the market involves understanding its unpredictability. While it offers opportunities for growth, it also carries risks. Research, diversification, and a long-term perspective can mitigate uncertainty. Ultimately, trust should be balanced with informed decision-making and risk management to navigate the fluctuations and pursue financial goals effectively.

Sorority Rush season is starting down south…

Whenever I get gloomy about the state of the country I remember there is a whole world south of the Mason Dixon unchanged by time. Where the progressives haven’t yet poisoned the mind of America’s thoroughbreds. You won’t find these ladies at a “Free Palestine” or a “My body, my choice” protest, they’ve chosen light over darkness.

IU Tailgate Tickets for UCLA Game

I logged on the LA chapter of the IU Alumni Association to see if they were doing anything for the game. They are hosting a tailgate at 2:00. It is on the neighboring golf course. It is only $30 per person and includes food and drinks including beer and wine so not a bad deal. From what I can tell 600+ have signed up. You can sign up through their facebook page:

IUAA Los Angeles Facebook Page

or through the IU Alumni Assoc,, Kay Terrell at akterrel@iu.edu or 812-855-1171. Sign up deadline is August 30th.

Getting psyched not that football season is here. I am staying in Pasadena. It would be nice to find a local bar to meet up with some IU people on Friday night.

Have You Beaten A Political Opponent Yet?

Our lack of education and our hand-held propaganda machines have produced mindless political polarization - and now violence around and in political meetings.

Street battles are next.

Then a generalized European conflict to which we can't respond because our computer grid is locked up by cyber criminals and because our enemies realize we are inert.

Those who sleep through high school history are doomed to repeat it and make it much worse in each successive round.

Here's an anecdote:

Look at r/Bloomington and reddit. Some idiotii claimed to find a social security card. Had to ask the e-world what to do with it. Deeeeep thinker. Probably has a life goal of being a unionized barista driving an electric Yugo.

The Democrat Convention might make Richard Daley jump out of his grave!
