Congrats to Mike Pegram

Congrats on his announced retirement. Mike has been a long time innovator in this space truly advancing not only the technology but the business of fan information, journalism and forum sharing. Rivals and now 247 are what they are in no small part because of Pioneer Mike and bazillions of IU fans that have/do follow each. I moved from the AOL and Netscape environments into Peegs in his earliest days. Met Mike only a couple of times at Peegs tailgates but stayed with him through Peegs then 247 until very recently.

The reigns are handed to RabJohns, and while not a fan of his, I wish him Mike Weaver and staff the best.

I see the day, when my hair's full gery, and I finally...disappear.

Colbert sure to be arrested for this

His team illegally enters House office building - allowed in by Democrat staffers. Obviously a surveillance mission - hanging around Boebert's office. Our democracy was hanging in the balance - I shudder to think what would have happened if the Capitol Police hadn't arrested them before they did real damage.

Pretty clear this was on direction from Colbert, since they are working for his show. There should be an investigation to find out if this was part of a deeper conspiracy.

I wonder how long they'll be in solitary confinement?

Trump riot developments

Some in the GOP/Trump camp continue to downplay and attempt to whitewash the pro-Trump riots of Jan 6. But I read a new article (linked below) on recent developments that I found interesting and thought I'd provide an update since the case has been evolving behind the scenes and there are elements that I was personally unaware of...

So arrests are up to around 440, with the FBI still rounding up new suspects, and the total is expected to exceed 500. On first glance, I would be inclined to assume that meant they were going after the lesser offenders in sort of a "mop up" mode. But in reality they are still looking for what they consider the most dangerous perps, esp those they believe assaulted LEOs (and Press).

In fact, out of the 440 arrested/charged, 60 people are charged with assaulting police. And while I knew a significant amount of cops were attacked, the update lists 140 officers from Capitol Police and DC Metro (combined) as injured. That is far more than I was personally aware of...

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for info leading to additional captures, so if anyone has any potential info on the whereabouts of a past poster or two feel free to DM it to me (LOL)...

Two additional issues that piqued my interest...Check out this statement from the FBI website, esp the part I bolded in red...

"The FBI is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying individuals who made unlawful entry into the U.S. Capitol building and committed various other alleged criminal violations, such as destruction of property, assaulting law enforcement personnel, targeting members of the media for assault, and other unlawful conduct, on January 6, 2021, in Washington, D.C.," the FBI says on its website."

When I read that I immediately thought of Trump rallies, and more specifically the vitriolic attacks and verbal assaults Trump continuously launched against media members who were (purposely) housed in a sort of bullpen at his rallies.

How long will I live? Quick ‘flamingo’ balance test could tell you how long you have left

The 10 second 'flamingo test' that could show if you're 'more likely to die earlier'

New research found that people who cannot stand on one leg for 10 seconds have an increased risk of death.

Being able to stand on one leg “flamingo style” for 10 seconds in middle-age may be a good sign you will stay in the pink of health in the future, say researchers.

The one-legged stance test (OLS), where participants are asked to balance on one leg with the front of the foot on their free leg placed on the back of the lower part of the standing leg in the manner of a flamingo, has been found to be an indicator of how long you may live.

People who cannot stand on one leg for 10 seconds doing a flamingo-style balance test have an increased risk of death within seven years, according to a new study.

Asking people to stand on one leg for 10 seconds provides “useful information regarding mortality risk in middle-aged and older men and women”, researchers said.

The team of global researchers, including experts from Bristol Medical School, examined data on 1,702 people aged 51 to 75 from Brazil.

People were asked to take off their shoes and socks and place the front of the free foot on the back of the opposite lower leg, while keeping their arms by their sides and their gaze fixed straight ahead.

They were allowed three attempts.

One in five people (20%) failed to pass the test, with the inability to do so rising with age – 54% of those aged 71 to 75 were unable to balance on one leg for 10 seconds compared to just 5% of 51 to 55-year-olds, 8% of 56 to 60-year-olds, 18% of 61 to 65-year-olds and 37% of 66 to 70-year-olds.

The study, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, tracked participants over a number of years.

After an average follow-up time of seven years, 123 people had died, or 7% of the participants.

Some 17.5% of people who failed the test were among those who had died, compared to 4.6% of those who passed.

After accounting for various factors, the researchers concluded that an inability to stand unsupported on one leg for 10 seconds was associated with an 84% increased risk of death during the follow-up period.
