Memorial Stadium

We got there early and bought three waters, a hotdog, popcorn and a bag of peanuts. We drank the water by halftime and wanted more water but the lines sucked and I'm not a person to wait in a line. It was parchy the second half for my bunch...

Another thing they should consider is putting porta pots throughout the stadium. Waiting in line 20 minutes to pee in a trough sucks...
If they want a way to spend all that Big Ten money, they should build a ring of bathrooms on the outside of the concourses. Make use of the space they have. But..... NOOOOOOOOooooooooo

Memorial Stadium

They’re definitely figuring things out as they go.

It took them til the 4th home game to get the Thunderstruck entrance down.

They’re still trying to figure out their big gimmick between the 3rd & 4th. They tried “Jump Around” yesterday. It did NOT get over with the crowd. They tested “Livin on a Prayer” which didn’t get too big of a reaction. The biggest reaction so far has been “We Will Rock You,” which is passe, but I guess we get what we get.

it’s slow, but what about “Turn the Page?” Probably Metallica version. Seems fairly appropriate
Jump Around is so lame. It's Wisconsin's thing - let them do it.

I think, also, Nebraska's "no way we lose to these guys" attitude had them gambling early, and losing often. If they would have taken some FG's, they may have stemmed some of the tide, and made our "bend but not break" defense not look insurmountable. Our offense kinda forced them into going for it almost all game, and our D stops turned it into a rout.

That said, I think I remember the scouting reports saying their kicking was weak...maybe they had no options given our offense.

Was down in Dallas on Wed and was watching his show at Snuffers at lunch when he interviewed Cig. You can tell he and Cig click...W Penn and W Va guys and all. When Mac was basically telling him not to "eff it up" I assumed he meant last weekend, which made me almost certain they were coming this week, and not waiting for Michigan weekend. They're striking while the iron is hot.

I wish our own effing conference had as much faith and foresight. They coulda flexed/switched us to the Michigan/Michigan State prime time spot, as they are the other ET zone game...given them the noon spot.

Instead, we're stuck in the almost unheard of GameDay/noon game start...I gotta assume they'll put a stage on the field like BigNoon did for picks...or start the game at 12:30 if not?
You'll just have to tune in to see...Big Noon was outside the stadium bowl. Kickoff should be a few minutes after 12. It will be fun!

NOVEMBER PREDICTIONS - Put em Right Here

Still early and not my final call. I have a lot to live to to after a perfect EC total prediction in 2020. 😂

But if I must I'll say.... Trump EC victory, Paul and...

Hoosiers 11-1, playoff bound!

I’m not sure how I’d react if the Hoosiers make the CFP. It’s just…almost beyond comprehension.

I’d put that right up there with the US Hockey team beating the Soviets in 1980…or Rulon Gardner handing Aleksandr Karelin his first defeat in just about forever at the 2000 Olympics. I don’t think he’d even surrendered a single point in 5+ years.

IU is a national story, plus McAfee apparently has some pull 🤣. B1G has 3 spots in the top 4...there are a few other top 25 matchups that might seem a better ratings decision. But I can say, in no uncertain terms, that they are excited to be here this weekend.

you know youre one of my favorite posters and i'm thoroughly impressed and jealous of your memory for shit. i do think you've misappropriated your time significantly in not knowing about vanderpump rules (the relationship scandal of the 2020s, SCANDOVAL, that was nominated for an emmy) amongst so many other things, but i am no fan of old rush, despite being a conservative. the limbaughs are a real neat family. the first family of cape girardeau lol. they're legends. i got to know stephen limbaugh a little bit, a very powerful guy, who to a person couldn't have been sweeter and who no matter how busy ALWAYS had time to help. just a gem of a person. rush on the other hand imo in many ways represents the genesis of the lack of decorum and just pure nastiness we see in politics and political commentary today. rush and newt combined left a legacy of divisiveness perhaps above anything else

I can understand that. We’re all entitled to our opinions. But, personally, I never found him to be quite as nasty as some other people did. He spent 15 hours a week on the air and most of the 20 second clips that would make their way to other media were the ones that painted him in the worst light.

I thought his show was clever and entertaining, often quite funny, and I thought he often had some compelling and unique takes on current events and the cultural zeitgeist.

It’s worth pointing out that Buckley, Mr. Firing Line himself was a fan. And I absolutely relished the times when Walter Williams would guest host for Rush. That man was as hilarious as he was brilliant - and I always came away from those episodes feeling like I learned something.

That's awesome. Closest I can come to being anywhere near something like that was Austin in the mid 90s. But that was country stuff--and no silicone baddies.
Mid/late 80's Cuban and his crew would throw these warehouse bashes...kinda pre-raves...that everyone would go to. Would rent out these big spaces, and just throw impromptu bashes, mostly in Deep Ellum.

Deep Ellum was mostly this emerging art/live music scene, but you also had Cuban, and the Starck Club guys throwing the kinda "club" parties...more about the booze, drugs, and definitely chicks. The band places were mostly pre-goth chicks. We dug the band at the live clubs, but the warehouse parties are where as 16 and 17 year old kids, you could get into some shenanigans.

We'd make runs down to Austin in the mid to late 90's...Iron Cactus and some other 6th St spots. Cain & Ables up by campus. Rose up on the north side on occasion to see some juggs.

Those were great days we were living, bro. We were jolly green giants, walking the earth, with guns.

With success comes...

Actually, I’m a little surprised that College Gameday is coming
Nothing to to do with IU but with all of these networks tied into conferences, I’m surprised that ESPN would give any extended time whatsoever to the Big Ten.

Craze, greatly appreciate the outlining of your historical political philosophy.

As someone who takes your Cooler posts seriously over the years there weren't any big surprises.

My only question would be...At this stage of the national political game, are you now in what might be called a moderate ?

Also, you didn't mention Ronald Reagan.

Also, thank you for the kind words. I’ve long admired you and valued your input here…and the unfailing class and respect with which you approach others on the board. You’re a helluva good egg.

Reagan was great in a lot of ways. I could’ve and should’ve included him. But I was thinking mostly about people who really caused me to think about matters in new ways - largely through their writings.

My first introduction to Friedman was the PBS series that accompanied his mass market book “Free to Choose.” I went on to read that and “Capitalism and Freedom” and they had profound effects on me….in ways that were just different than Reagan did through his speeches and such.

Moreover, I’ve just never fully bought in to the cultural conservatism that made up the other half of the “fusion” coalition that eventually led to Reagan’s election.

I don’t think it’s an accident that I was so enamored of Mitch Daniels, given that he believed that the cultural squabbles were keeping us from solving the major problems facing our society. He was almost prescient in that admonition.

Trumpism is heavy into protectionism, nativism, isolationism, and populist economic arguments that are largely anathema to the principles of conservatism that I cherish.

The D may not seem dominant, but they are sneaky good.
No 1st quarter scores … only school with these bragging rights.
35th in 3rd down defense 0.337. 3rd in 4th down defense.
4th in rushing defense.
7th in scoring defense, 14.43 points/game.
7th in total defense.
18th passing efficiency defense.
23rd TFL.
I get all that, they definitely pass the "stat test". And I'm in no way putting them down. But my "eye test" says we aren't disruptive enough...as I said earlier, it's probably more to do with my history of watching every game for years. I'm a huge college FB fan, and try to watch as many touted non-IU games as possible (if I think it will be a good game). There is also something to be said about a team working as a collective unit, i.e. no individual standouts, no splashy plays...just everyone doing their part. That's what I think of our defense, and it's working.

Kinda sums it up.

I was an Indiana kid that moved down there in 1984 right when the scene was starting. We were in Mesquite, about 20 min drive down to Deep Ellum. Started going to Theatre Gallery and Prophet Bar as a HS freshman because they would let us in and sell us beers. 😄 Totally different scene than NE Indy suburbs.

And the bands...dare I say, better than the Seattle scene...

Jeff Liles...one of the dudes that also was a ringleader of the scene, had this one man band, Cottonmouth, TX.

Brad - you ever see him in Austin late 90's? This video. 😄
