It’s funny people continually talk about Indiana’s strength of schedule, but few anre talking about Penn States. PSU’s best win was against an overrated Illinois team that was getting praise for beating Nebraska and UM at the beginning of the season which both turned out to be not so great teams. They needed OT to beat a USC program that is worse than UM. If we are going to compare schedules and results IU is far superior to PSU right now. If PSU had played our schedule and us theirs they would still be ranked ahead of IU and imo would have a better case with our schedule and results.

Woodson recruiting like Archie now....

Ask the players... Otherwise this is all conjecture. Win and things line up. If you look closely with an open mind you can see the pathway ahead of us. 😁
Hmmm.... Of course its conjecture... on my end, I even started my participation in this thready by saying that.

I think "asking the players" might give an interesting dichotomy...Woodson has had relatively no issues retaining players. So I would think he'd get pretty good grades from players who end up playing for him. But there is zero question he's having issues landing certain types of players, and winning certain types of recruitments.

We got a contender

That game will probably be closer than most would think it will be. They don't have wins to show for it, but they've been a fair bit more solid in recent weeks. It would be an epic stumble for IU to actually lose to them, but I doubt its a Nebraska level blowout.
it's their super bowl so they'll leave it all on the field. IU needs to bang on them early and put a crooked number up in the first half.

Michigan Game Tickets in SEZ Suites

Just curious, since the game is sold out.....I take it that you already have the tickets?
Yes. Some business friends and I pitched in and bought a suite. One of the friends is going out of town on vacation this weekend - very poor timing. I am selling her tickets for her. Tickets in hand. I'll hand deliver to the buyer.

If IU were squeaking by these lesser opponents, it would be one thing. But they're not, they annihilating them, all of them.

A great point was made, I think in the Nebraska game. If a team like OSU, or Michigan, or Penn State, were doing what IU is doing, they'd be ranked number 1 in the country, and people would be talking about them as historically one of the best teams in the B10.

IU has earned the added layer of scrutiny from their decades long levels of incompetence. I'm sure its frustrating for Cignetti, who has earned the exact opposite of that. I hope it continues to drive him, and the IU program in positive ways. The first stumble, or misstep with a loss or two, and IU will fall out of focus dramatically. Its a tenuous place they're in. Which is strange, because I don't think there's anything tenuous about how good a program Cignetti/IU have going.

IU's record in the past SHOULD have nothing to do with the present and what this team is doing.
But we all know it does!

Greatest celebrity endorsement of the 21st Century

I never heard that one, but I did hear that when Harrison Ford moved to LA he couldn't get enough acting jobs to pay the bills. So he started a handyman business, specializing in high-end woodworking and carpentry. He was apparently really good at it and got to work on some hollywood mansions. George Lucas met Ford while he was installing a wooden door at Francis Ford Coppola’s house. This led to his casting in Lucas’ first hit, American Graffiti, in 1973. Then this movie series called Star Wars...

Um, wtf is going on here?

Pretty simple remedy. Even though with an average record beating Meatchicken by 6 TD's, hold Buckeyes under 17, win out big and they'll come begging for the HOOSIERS. Ace in the hole is Indiana fans travel very well and spend $ even better, they need that, always.

Chicago Bears/NFL fans? What should they do?

That's not going to happen until and unless McCaskies are gone.

We seem to be in the worst of all possible worlds with a QB who might be a bust but with management who will stick with him longer than they should. Again.
I am still high on Caleb. I don’t think there is anyway his floor is lower than a long time starter in this league. But we’re going to ruin him.

Polls - - a week out

The GOP is basing the idea that Dems won't vote on election day on 2020 results, but that's a dubious proposition. Before 2020 it was GOP voters who voted early, esp in the southern battlegrounds of AZ and NV. That changed in 2020, but a huge part of that was Dems were a lot more Covid conscious and simply preferred to avoid huge crowds.

Most Dem analysts I follow believe there are 2 factors not being addressed, First off they expected a larger increase in GOP participation, based on traditional patterns and a push for early voting among GOP voters. and as a result Dems still have a lead in key states like PA. The GOP optimism comes from a belief that Dem ED vote will be down, but the fact is in a state like PA the early Dem vote only comprised around 13% of Dems who voted on ED in 2020.

That means the Dems have still been able to compile a lead, basically relying on a portion of those who voted early in 2020, as well as new voters. That means the ED vote for Dems in 2024 should be basically intact, and supplemented by new voters and 2020 early voters who shift to ED.That's where the dem GOTV efforts come into play...

By contrast the GOP early vote consists of 93% or so people who voted in 2020. 46% of the 2024 early GOP vote consisted of people who also voted early in 2020. But 47% of current GOP early voters voted on ED in 2020. So in order to maintain their 2020 ED advantage, the GOP is going to have to replace a significant portion who voted on ED in 2020 but chose to vote early this year.

I'd also point out that of the 46% of early vote GOP registered voters who voted by mail again this year, they are coming mainly from counties where Haley did well in the Primary. Also GOP registered voters who voted by mail in 2020 were more likely to vote for Biden than Trump. So among that 46% you're drawing from a pool of GOP registered voters who statistically did not actually vote for Trump 4 yrs ago...

So in a state like PA it's going to boil down to which analysts are correct on their assumption of what the ED vote will look like. Trump has placed an emphasis on attracting young (mainly white) men but that did not show up in the early GOP vote. They are already the most difficult demographic to turn out, and I sure wouldn't put any $$ on a nimrod like Charlie Kirk being able to drive them to the polls to stand in long lines on election day. Women (young and old) are not only showing up in the early numbers, but (based on voting) seem to be far more engaged.

And with the huge gender gap (even wider in PA) it's easy for me to see why my favorite analyst who knew the "red Wave" was non-existant in 2022,based on the same type of available data, continues to say that he'd rather be in the Harris campaign than the Trump campaign. Working in politics for 30 yrs and having a ground level view of the two campaigns, he feels better about the advatges Harris has compared to Trump. Doesn't mean he'll be right this time because he was right in 2022, but I have faith in his analysis...
Farmers love this gift from the Biden administration

“Net cash farm income is forecast at $154.1 billion in 2024, a decrease of $12 billion (7.2 percent) relative to 2023 in nominal dollars. When adjusted for inflation, 2024 net cash farm income is forecast to decrease by $16.3 billion (9.6 percent) from 2023. Sep 5, 2024” USDA.gov report

Anybody happen with 10% lower income this year? One wonder what paper printed the MSM report about unhappy farmers. Exactly how many farmers did Kamala campaign with over the last three months? California liberals are up there with corn weevils in Iowa. Midwestern farm country is hurting this year. They are hard to poll as they are in the fields this time of year.

Woodson recruiting like Archie now....

Of course...

But why did Knecht, McNeeley, Fland, Haralson, Mullins, etc...ALL choose other schools then?

I think Mgbako returning probably did have an impact on McNeeley...but the rest? All of them would have had basically unlimited playing time, for one of the top exposure programs in the country.

Its not as "simple" as you're making it out to be. And exposure goes both ways...it can be good, and it can be not so good. I think expounding on my "theories" from the other post...the fact that kids and their families know that they'll have a ton of exposure at IU, and be heavily scrutinized...but will be doing so in Woodson's program, and in the B10...the IU microscope is actually hurting our chances with some kids.

"Give me all the smoke...I want it all...but not with your offense, and not in the blood bath B10 conference."
Ask the players... Otherwise this is all conjecture. Win and things line up. If you look closely with an open mind you can see the pathway ahead of us. 😁

IU's CFP odds increased significantly this weekend

Michigan State ran for 163 yards against Michigan. They had NEGATIVE 36 rushing yards against IU. Michigan State also dominated time of possession and outgained Michigan 352-265. They had 193 yards against IU and did nothing after the first quarter. The only reason the Washington game was close was due to Rourke not playing.
Yep...we should beat them. But we'll be going about our business against cats that are bigger, stronger, and faster, than any of the teams we've played against this year. So, yet again, its a new kind of challenge.

Good news is Cignetti and his staff have bitch slapped every challenge put in front of them thus far. And those athletes wearing the famous helmets, they haven't shown an ability to use their size and athleticism particularly well thus far.

Barring weird stuff like injuries, lots of turnovers, obvious officiating challenges...IU should handle Michigan on Saturday.

This isn't a perfect analogy...but it fits in some ways. IU is like a really, really, really good 4A or so level football team right now. Michigan is like a very talented, and athletic, but overall not great 6A program. You always have to be a little wary that the size, depth, and talent wakes up for that 6A school in games like this. But there's zero question IU has the better team right now.

Middle class tax cuts

Craze, good to see you added Wall Street to the list of contributors to the 2008 financial crisis.
I've always included them in it -- they've always been fingered as a culprit in this article (and other, deeper analyses of what all transpired there) that I've linked numerous times.

I think it was like a domino effect -- or a planets aligning effect. And there is no question at all that Wall Street was part of it -- in multiple ways. They are always going to be looking at ways to make money....which is fine, so long as the risks and incentives are all properly placed. In this case, we deliberately reassigned the risks so that virtually all interested parties could gain while avoiding that burden.

The sin wasn't Wall Street wanting to make money -- that's what it always will do. The sin was convincing ourselves that it was virtuous to remove the sensible barriers to home lending that were there for good reason, not to keep people out of homes.

Woodson recruiting like Archie now....

to continually lose out to others on top players that have looked at IU, that's the pace Woodson is one ,tells me he likes the portal route way better than recruiting HS players. Gonna bite him soon but hurt IU far more. Never saw so many Indiana kids and others choose anyone but IU. If this season is underwhelming,IU has to make a change
Maybe we can have Cignetti coach em when the football season is over....🤣
