That was a very good speech by Jeb.

Actually he was not in my top three but may have to revisit. I actually was very impressed with his speech and more importantly his presentation. .

He is going to be a very formidable candidate. The Spanish speaking Republican nominee.

Here's my problem with the speech . . . essentially he said - like he's said many times before - that he'd want to govern as a Compassionate Conservative. Where have we heard that before?

For better or worse, pretty much everything he's doing is making him seem like more of the same Bush that 41 (my preferred version) and 43 presented. I sure hope we can do better than that . . .

. . . of course the counter-argument might be that practice makes perfect, or that the 3rd times the charm . . .

. . . I'm still at meh re: Jeb. He's going to have to show me he's got more and better to offer than his predecessor Bush presidents before I would vote for him.

Well the Clinton speech was a rerun also. I just think the message was well delivered and the fluent Spanish is going to win some support. The demographic problem of the African American 90%, which will hold in this election and the female desire to win the Whitehouse makes Hillary almost unbeatable. It is Clintons to loose.

I agree Sope but Hillary is certainly not the answer. She is a retread/run without anything new. Go back eight years and same old same old.

But a rerun of the Clinton years seems a lot more positive than a rerun of the Bush years.

She's back! Missed you! Don't think so - Hillary can't hold a candle to Bill!. She is the most egotistical candidate in either party in the field.

If he ever became a candidate you'd vote for, his candidacy would be doomed. Surely you realize that.

Jeb's going to have to rely on the other candidates taking each other out and essentially enabling him to win the nomination by default -- like McCain and Romney did.

Not sure that's in the cards with contenders like (in particular) Rubio and Walker. Michelle Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, and Herman Cain they aren't.

Jeb is the best of the Bushes. I would apologize for him but if you are willing to vote for Hillary then you are already a lost cause.

:)

Been reading, just not posting much lately. Hillary isn't my first choice, but if it's between Hilalry another Bush, I'd vote for her. Although I always thought he's the one that should have run instead of W.

Rubio and Walker were in my top 3 along with long shot Jindal.

Ah, yes. Let's debate about which version of going backwards would be better.

I'm currently looking for candidates who want to move forwards.

Jeb-Hillary will be one of the least interesting elections for me in a long time.

I'd like a liberal informed opinion on who IS your first choice, please. Who is your first choice?

Seeing Jeb make his formal announcement without a coat and tie was disappointing for me. Kinda like seeing the company CEO in a t-shirt at the company picnic and wishing he hadn't come dressed like that.

Jeb just didn't look presidential.

I'm not really sure what a "liberal" is, but for me it would be Bernie. The only decent human being in DC, a true patriot, and a true constitutionalist. I know I know, he called himself a socialist and he shouldn't have because he's not. There's absolutely nothing he wants to do that the constitution doesn't already allow for.

I supported Hillary in 2008, but highly skeptical that she can be the best candidate on either side of this election, much less both sides. In my view Hillary is a place holder due to the lack of any other currently viable Democratic candidates. That's not to say there won't be one . . . but there isn't yet one.

AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought you were a TEACHER . . .

. . . AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok...what did I do? ( and just in case it's egregious , in full disclosure, I had a medical procedure and have been loopy for two days). Oops, never mind, caught it. And grammar is my thing too. I need an excused on drugs clause though. ( Everything is fine and they are good drugs, but now I need to nap! :) )

I like Bernie too, and Elizabeth Warren. See the problem with Obama is that he hasn't been liberal enough. I know that's what you're looking for, right?

And now there's "The Donald".

Watched him with the sound off, he seems angry. Thought a couple times he was going to click his heels and throw out his right arm.

Anyone starting a pool for how long he lasts?

:D I had ranted on this just yesterday in Marv's "City" thread. When you posted that I felt cornered . . .

I hope you get to feeling better soon . . . or perhaps I should wish that you get to feeling not quite so good as the drugs are making you feel . . . .

Can I have some of those drugs, this round of chemo is just kicking my ass.

Feel better soon zeke.

I like your picks. I don't think Rubio isn't ready yet. I like the idea of a governor like Walker and Jindal. Jeb's common core and immigration stand will cost him the nomination.

Did you listen to Trump today? While he is crude, and completely unelectable, he does raise points that others won't touch about the competitive landscape the US is in. I don't doubt what he is saying. I question if his way of doing business would work as President. Several comments made me wince, but others reminded me how robotic ALL the candidates for 2016 sound. I like that he is willing to call out either party and his one-liners would keep us entertained, but he isn't Presidential material. The Washington media will hate him.

Trump is a clown. He's 2016's Pat Paulsen -- only with (a lot) more cash and (a lot) more media appeal. But, if politics was wrestling, and most of the other candidates freestyle or Greco-Roman styles....Trump would be the WWE.

Oh, and the Washington media will hate any candidate who isn't well-esteemed by the political establishment they represent -- particularly if they sense the candidate is a genuine threat (which Trump isn't).

That means they'll like Jeb -- until and unless, of course, he wins the Republican nomination.

So Bernie's a great guy...who lies about what he is?

I'd argue that most American socialists just don't embrace the label because, fairly or unfairly, it has such a bad connotation in our political lexicon (everywhere other than Vermont...and now Seattle, I suppose).

Upton Sinclair figured this out a long time ago. He said that Americans will take socialism, but they won't take the label. He had run twice for office -- once as a Socialist, once as a Democrat -- on pretty much the exact same platform....faring a lot better with the D rather than the S.

Bernie is just horrible at marketing. He took the bait and thought he could take the sting out of the Fox News types and neocons calling him a socialist by just saying "Fine, I'm a socialist. Now I've embraced it so you can't use it against me!!!" He didn't actually say that, but I believe that was his line of thinking. All he really did was take the bait and commit political suicide.

It's all about salesmanship and Bernie doesn't have it. For example, if you call it "Assisted Suiced" people just hear "suicide" and are against it...suicide = bad word. But if you call it "Death With Dignity" people hear "dignity" and they can get behind it a little more easily. Just like when republicans changed their "anti-abortion" label to "pro life". "Pro" sounds better than "anti". Salesmanship.

Bernie Sanders has openly considered himself a socialist since long before there was a Fox News.

Frankly, I admire his truth in advertising. What you call poor marketing, I call refreshing candor in an era where it's far more fashionable to rely on poll-tested euphemisms that don't carry such a negative connotation.

Yes, but if you want to get elected to the presidency, you have to do that.
