Just taking a quick pass through the upcoming Super Regionals and I noticed how many of these matchup really have a localish flavor to them. My understanding is that is more by chance versus something setup by the NCAA. Regardless, this should make for some interesting series.

Maryland vs Virginia
Arkansas vs Missouri St
Florida vs Florida St
Louisiana Lafayette vs LSU
Texas A&M vs TCU

I'm sure they thought of that when setting the overall brackets. It makes sense - will help pack the stands.

Yeah I bet that might factor into things slightly as they set the top 16 seeds and really most of the opening round is fairly local with few exceptions. I went back and looked at the potential 1 seed matchups for this weekend and they seem to line up with more local flavors. If all seeds held the only non local matchups would have been Dallas Baptist vs Miami. Outside of that you are looking at Illinois/Vandy or Missouri St/Oklahoma St.

What's interesting is that both Virginia and Maryland destroyed the UCLA/UCSB matchup.
