the road in conference play next weekend against a very good Illinois team that has just one conference loss going into today's game.
 
The Illini beat a bad Purdue team today to go 7-1 in conference play...

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana brought out the brooms for the second time this season, sweeping Rutgers with a 5-4 win on Sunday at Bart Kaufman Field, improving to 21-11 and 5-6 in Big Ten action.

The Hoosiers were outhit, 11-9, but stranded 14 Scarlet Knights on base, including nine in scoring position, limiting their opponents to runs on the board in just one inning.

Eight of Rutgers' 14 left on base came in the first four frames, including four in scoring position, as Indiana built a 4-0 lead.

The Hoosiers posted three first-inning runs behind a solo home run from Austin Cangelosi at second and giving IU a 3-0 lead as Sowers ran home.

Hartong reached on another Rutgers' throwing error in the third inning and scored on Sowers' RBI double, putting IU in the driver's seat with a 4-0 advantage.

Rutgers tied the game in the fifth inning after starting RHP Christian Morris, who gave up six hits but didn't allow a run, departed. The Scarlet Knights used three hits, a walk and an HBP to even the score, but left the go-ahead run on third base.

The Hoosiers responded in the bottom of the fifth and never looked back. Scott Donley to score the winning run.

Ryan Halstead combined to pitch the final four scoreless innings, giving up a total of just two hits and striking out four, including three from Harrison. Seventeen of the game's 20 total hits came in the first five innings.

Indiana plays a pair of mid-week games, traveling to Indiana State for a 6 p.m. ET first pitch on Tuesday, April 14, before returning home for a contest at home vs. Evansville on Wednesday, April 15, at 6:05 p.m. ET.

The good news is we get to play them.

Bad news it isn't in Bloomington, IN. As a newer college baseball fan, I'm still getting used to not playing everyone in the conference. At least we get a shot a the Illini.
