LBSU, 12-5 win in the opener

I am here today. Long Beach State first baseman Luke Rasmussen just opened the scoring with a long homer to left of a Kelzer 1-0 pitch in the top of the 2nd inning. Other than that, every player for both teams have been retired as IU bats with one out in the bottom of the second.

Back to back doubles by Zack Rivera and Brock Lundquist with one out just extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth. Rivera's was a ground rule double to left and Lundquist smacked a liner over Craig Dedelow in center. Dedelow had a stab at it but it was a tough read. Kelzer then walked Rasmussen and Zach Domingues was hit by a pitch while trying to bunt, so bases loaded with just one out for the Dirtbags. Kelzer still in

Now 4-0 and Kelzer just taken out after bases loaded walk. Before that gave up a hard single to left. Bases load still with one out for Dirtbags. Evan Bell on in relief.

Bell let the count go to 3-1 with bases loaded to his first hitter and catcher Eric Hutting crushed that pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam. Hutting was hitting just .189 coming into today and hitting 9th in the lineup.

Christian Morris in here to start the 5th. IU did get back two in the bottom of the inning due to doubles by Sowers and Dedelow but Pasteur grounded into inning ending double play with bases loaded.

After 2 outs, Dedelow appears to lose a ball just before the catch and is given a error on the play; it allowed the runner to advance to 2nd and he scored as the next batter doubled .
Indiana goes 1, 2, 3.
LBSU, 11-4 after 8 innings.

Morris goes 4 innings: 4H, 2R, 1BB & 2SO. Coursen-Carr in to relieve for the 9th; gives up a solo shot HR.
The top of the order is coming to bat. Rodigue reaches on an error and advance to 2nd, Ramos single and scores Rodigue followed by 3 outs.
LBSU gets the 12-5 win in the opener.

Well, that was humbling. Hart to get the start tomorrow; slated for 3pm (EDT) pending weather concerns (and may become a doubleheader).

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Bolstered by an eight-run fourth inning, Long Beach State took the series opener at Indiana, 12-5, Friday evening at Bart Kaufman Field.

Indiana recovered to score a pair of runs in both the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, but the 9-0 deficit was insurmountable for the Hoosiers.

Long Beach State's eight runs in the fourth were the most by an IU opponent in any inning this season, thanks to five hits and a series of free bases given away by Indiana.

Back-to-back doubles gave the Dirtbags a 2-0 lead before a walk and hit by pitch loaded the bases for LBSU with one out. A single and another walk gave the Dirtbags a 4-0 advantage with bases still loaded before IU gave up its first grand slam of the season, pitting the Hoosiers in an 8-0 hole. LBSU doubled for the third time in the inning to exit the top of the frame with a 9-0 advantage.

Indiana, which stranded nine on base for the game, registered seven of its 12 hits over the next two innings, scoring four times. The Hoosiers got on the board with a 2-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth from Craig Dedelow, who led IU with three hits to match his career high. IU loaded the bases on Austin Cangelosi's single, but a double play ended the stanza.

IU loaded the bases again in the fifth frame with zero outs, scoring on a fielder's choice RBI via Scott Donleyand sacrifice fly from Logan Sowers.

Led by Dedelow, four Hoosiers tallied multi-hit games, with two each from Nick Ramos, Casey Rodrigue and Sowers.

RHP Christian Morris provided 4.0 solid innings of relief, allowing just one earned run on four hits, while striking out four. Morris retired nine straight batters from the end of the fifth to the eighth inning before Dedelow's error and a Dirtbag double put LBSU ahead, 11-4.

TOMORROW'S TIME CHANGE
