1st Period:

Game stayed close early on until OSU went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-5 lead before Holmes got an old fashion three point play to make it 11-8. OSU shot the ball poorly on their homecourt against Iowa and was just 4 of 25 on 3s in that game, but they started this game shooting the ball well while IU started off slowly and was maybe a little tight, and was down 14-8 at the 4:21 TV timeout. The Bucks took the lead up to 16-8 before IU went on a 9-0 run with Holmes doing most of the damage and finished the 1st on a basket by Berger to take a lead of 17-16 at the end of the period. Holmes had 11 points in the 1st and two Buckeye starters had picked up two fouls apiece.

2nd Period:

The lead see-sawed back and forth before Garzon scored four straight polnts and IU had a 23-20 lead, but IU would have 8 turnovers on the game midway through the period and the Buckeyes would take a lead at 27-25 under the five-minute mark. The lead would be 31-27 for the Bucks at a timeout at 3:19 after Holmes had scored her 15th point of the game. OSU's lead was pretty much built on points after turnovers although the Bucks had several turnovers also. Coming out of the timeout, Scalia missed a wide-open layup and then Holmes picked up her 2nd foul as OSU would take a six-point lead at 33-27. OSU would take a 36-30 lead before a bucket by Holmes made it 36-32 at the half.

Half: OSU 36 IU 32. IU just plain looked tight to me at the start of the game and they didn't shoot the ball well, although OSU didn't exactly light it up either. The Buckeyes were 46.7% from the field while IU was 39.4%. IU was 1 of 8 on 3s, while OSU was 1 of 7. Holmes had 18 points at the half with Garzon adding 9 points and they shot the ball well, but the rest of the team was off on their shooting. OSU, Cotie McMahon, a freshman averaging 13 points a game, had 18 points at the half. Both teams had three starters with 2 fouls apiece with Holmes, Berger, and Parrish having two apiece.

3rd Period:

IU started the period by missing two straight 3s by Garzon and Parrish. The Buckeyes got the first score to put the lead up to 38-32 with OSU's Thierry picking up her 3rd foul as Berger added two FTs to make it 38-34. Garzon finally broke through the drought behind the arc by hitting a 3 to make it 38-37 OSU at a timeout with 6:37 left in the period. An old fashion three-point play by Moore-McNeil and a 3-pointer by Parrish gave IU a 43-38 lead at a timeout. Back-to-back threes by Garzon gave IU a 49-38 lead at under four minutes left in the period as IU went on a 17-0 run. IU continued the run and got the lead up to 55-41 at 1:30 left in the period. A key player for OSU, 6-4 Rebeka Mikulashikova, picked up her 4th foul near the end of the period with IU leading 59-42 at the end of it as IU outscored OSU 27-6 in the period. IU hit 8 of their last 11 shots of the period and Holmes finished the period off with an old fashion three-point play.

4th Period:

OSU opened the period with a FT and a 3 to get the lead down to 13 points. An old fashion three-point play by OSU got the lead down to 10 at 59-49. but Berger nailed a 3 to get the lead back up to 13 points. Both teams were getting into foul trouble with Parrish with four fouls and Holmes and Garzon with three fouls. OSU got the lead down to nine points at the under 7-minute mark. A bucket by Holmes and a three by OSU got the lead down to 8 points as the teams started going back and forth in scoring. IU was up by 10 at just over five minutes left in the game. OSU's leading scorer in the game, McMahon, picked up her fifth foul at the 4:50 mark and departed with 21 points. The lead stayed around 9 to 14 points for the rest of the game.

IU was led by Holmes with 26 points while Garzon added 20 points. A regular season record crowd of 10,455 was on hand. I absolutely hate that "overrated chant," since it denigrates the performance of your team. OSU is hardly overrated. IU has beaten four Top 25 teams in their last five games.
