TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- A pair of multi-run home runs lifted Indiana State to a 6-2 win over Indiana on Tuesday evening at Bob Warn Field.
The Hoosiers sprinted to a fast start scoring in the top of the first inning, but a three-run homer for ISU in the bottom of the third gave the Sycamores a lead they wouldn't surrender the rest of the way.
Indiana scored first on an RBI single from
Casey Rodrigue, who walked and stole second to put himself in scoring position.
The Sycamores pulled ahead in the bottom of the third on a three-run home run to right field after ISU put its second runner on base with a two-out walk.
IU loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth inning, but couldn't respond. The Hoosiers, however, limited damage in the bottom of the frame, allowing just one run after ISU loaded the bases with zero outs.
Trailing 4-1 entering the seventh, the Hoosiers placed runners in scoring position with one out on an ISU error and Rodrigue's sixth double of the season. IU scored on
Brad Hartong's groundout RBI to cut the deficit to 4-2, but stranded Rodrigue on third.
Indiana State added insurance runs on a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-2 lead that remained for the final score.
